Lautenberg Remarks on Fox
10-2-02 | jaw1964a

I was watching Fox news tonight when Frank Lautenberg came on to accept the position of replacement for Torricelli in the NJ senate race. I have not found anywhere on any website the text of his remarks, but I have to agree with Dick Morris' comments that his acceptance speech was horrible. I was listening to him and thought how disjointed his comments sounded, like he really was speaking in soundbites, with no coherent train of thought. One minute he was talking about pollution, next about gun control, etc. I would not be emboldened by his presence, even as a write in candidate. He sounded like he was out of reality. If I were going to jump on a sinking ship and try to rescue it, I darn sure would have made my remarks glowing and coherent. What the people saw was a mishmash of soundbites and catchphrases. Hardly an issue speech that it should have been. He should have had someone write his speech instead of speaking off the cuff. Oh well, that is better for the GOP in that seat.

Lautenburg's acceptance speech sounded like he had a gun in his ribs and was reluctantly reading a ransom note.

"The Lautenburg Hostage Crisis - Day 2."

Being a rich elitist idiotic gun grabber is all Lostenberg knows.

I hope he gets kicked off the ballot or gets his ass kicked for the switcheroo.

It sounded like his mind was going, going, gone, in the race with senility.

If his poles drop like a rock, expect the Torch to resign with less than 30 days to go. That puts the Rat Govenor in the driver seat.

OK here is Forrester's problems:

He was TOO focused and TOO successful. He made "I'm not Bob Torricelli" and "Let's get rid of Bob Torricelli" his campaign themes. He is one for two. And no one cares about #1, because the other guy isn't Bob Torricelli either.

Forrester COULD have been talking about solid issues that would make him a credible candidate REGARDLESS of who the Democrats picked. He didn't do this, and as a result, he is at a significant disadvantage, since now he is running against another incumbent with an objectively solid record over three terms in Congress.

I am not for crybabying in the Republican Party. Fact is, if you are a good candidate, you are a good candidate against ANY challenger. The talk about "unfair" seems to be coming from the paid consultants---and I guess for them, it is unfair. Their product had a big flaw in it, and that was it was predicated on Torricelli surviving the autumn campaign season. Where is Plan B? ("I'm not Frank Lautenberg??" (well, who else aren't you?))

I simply haven't been impressed with Forrester. His primary commercial was "we haven't elected a Republican Senator since 1972 (Clifford Case)", and now "vote for me, I'm not Torri-cell-i." Forrester has about a week to get his act together and stop sounding like a whining crybaby whose underlying message is "I deserve to have!", (and everyone is picking up on that undertone), and actually fight a senatorial race.

Lautenberg won 52%, 54%, and 53%, I believe, in the three times he ran. The reason Bradley didn't run is that his last victory (1990) was one of those 50.5% ones, against Freeholder Christie Whitman of Somerville. And he lost a bunch of primaries to Al Gore in 2000, so he doesn't want to smell like a loser.

So let's have a real race.

It might not be too much of a comfort, but I can tell you Frank Lautencheat's old company, ADP, is dying and hopefully will be out of business in the next few years.

My wife helps run a local payroll processing company and they are growing by leaps and bounds taking ADP clients away!

Just like the big, inefficient government Lautenloser loves, his company is so stupid it's customers are sick of them and their ridiculous products.

Democrats are sub-human!

Maybe the Republicans should ask Rudy Guiliani to take over for Forrester!

I'd love to see how the Democrats take that!!

I don't think that Forrester will have any trouble debating Lautenberg. I think that even with the NJ Supreme Court ruling, Lautenberg is a non-issue. That speech he made should seal his fate as a confused, doting old man who is as out of touch with reality as he is with the constituents. Lautenberg failed in the one instance that he should have been at his very best. Forrester will knock him out.
