Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says the new budget reserve plan he negotiated with the Legislature will prevent the state from ever again descending into the kind of deficit spending spiral in which California finds itself today.

But a close look at the details of the proposal, which will go before voters on March 2, suggests that it falls well short of accomplishing the goals Schwarzenegger was trying to achieve.

This budget deal was a sham and intended only for the cameras and voters. From what I have read it looks like a typical political showpiece. Arnold should have just walked away and blamed the Dems while the budget collapsed.

Folks we are going to have to get a hard spending cap before the voters to get a true handle on the situation. I am sure Arnold did the best he could considering how the democrats have an overwhelming majority in the legislature. There are many battles ahead. Lets not be discouraged.

Exactly. This measure is ONLY the first step in getting our fiscal house here in California back in order again. We still need a hard spending cap and a flat tax to take care of what this plan doesn't address.

I for one, after reading the whole speech, have a new found confidence in California finding it's way out of financial ruin.
