I understand your point but be careful there. Those ties to federal dollars are in large part responsible for the mess the public schools are in.
All was fine for a while, then the Canadian government came out with a ridiculous mandate that "homeschooling families that accepted the $600 were forbidden to teach religion to their children," because the public school children were not allowed to be taught any religion.
You can imagine the outrage, and the response from the families.
Homeschoolers should never accept sweet "deals" from the government that seem too good to be true. The old axiom still holds.
Nope...bad deal. That's the kind of Faustian bargain that got the public schools all screwed up, remember?
Me, as a homeschooler I'll gladly continue to pay my way for our own homeschool curriculum AND fork over money to the local school district as property taxes, as long as the local government will keep their paws off my kids.
