Really well done piece, awesome image content, the whole enchilada.
Makes a strong case to reject the claim that Islam is a religion of peace as it is practiced currently.

"George Bush was intentionally lying when he said "Islam is a religion of peace".Well, that may be overstating things a bit. George Bush was not elected to be Theologian in Chief. Our Constitution supposedly allows for the free practice of any religion. Let's just say George Bush misunderestimated the latent tendencies of this "peaceful" religion and will deal with it as needed.
Really. He does not intentionally seek Moselm rule.

I think it's a bit extreme to charge Bush with intentionally lying, he a very devout Christian and I think his belief in the goodness of man gets in his way sometimes.

Excellent article, great post, thanks.
I live in Florida, and it is true that one of the things that has enabled these folks to drop beneath the radar is that Florida is like CA of 50 years ago - you come here, and you can do whatever you want, as long as you're not doing it in my backyard. Personally, I think that's a great attitude, but the problem is that the Islamics have taken advantage of our basic tolerance and kindness to bury their weapons in our land.
They also have lots of money. There is a big and active Islamic Center (set up by Sami Al Arian's group) here at UF in Gainesville. And they are getting people: the other day, at my gym, I saw two fat, hopeless white girls with local accents sitting there in their veils and shrouds. The Muslims are putting money into this, and they're getting the losers - like Padilla. But even losers can be dangerous.
And they are everywhere. Jeb Bush's recent faith-based prison initiative has backfired because Muslim "chaplains" are included in it, and one of the prisoners was recorded (even in my local liberal paper) as complaining about the "new religion" they were trying to teach him.
Ping to GrampaDave.

Thanks for the post - talk about The Enemy Within!
Fifteen years ago, when the fatwa against Salman Rushdie was declared and both his defenders and detractors managed to miss what the business was really about, the Times's Clifford Longley nailed it very well. Surveying the threats from British Muslim groups, he wrote that certain Muslim beliefs "are not compatible with a plural society: Islam does not know how to exist as a minority culture. For it is not just a set of private individual principles and beliefs. Islam is a social creed above all, a radically different way of organising society as a whole."
From Mark Steyn, I think this is the link:

For starters, Florida, especially South Florida, is home to 150,000 Muslims, mostly of Middle Eastern extraction. Highly ironic, as South Florida is also home to the largest concentration of Jews (on a per capita basis) in the United States. Palm Beach County is 38% Jewish, the highest percentage in the USA. Broward (where Padilla was from) is about 32% (I think) Jewish.
Hopefully, the JDL, in addition to the FBI, are keeping their eyes open down there.

I was surprised to find out there were so many Muslims in that one area.

"George Bush was intentionally lying when he said "Islam is a religion of peace"
What on earth did one want the President of the United States to say, "Islam is a religion of hatred and must be conquered and abolished?" Such silliness.

Bush has his MBA from Harvard, he aint stupid, he knows that Islamic philosophy has some serious wants. You are correct, it would be totally mindless to issue that type of statement.
To: johnqueuepublic
Perhaps Bush is pretending that he believes Islam is a religion of peace.
Perhaps not.

There's a big Islamic institute mosque here in Gainesville because of the university (established and funded by Sami Al Arian'sgroup).
The other day, I happened to drive by a mosque in the town of Ocala, about 45 minutes south of Gainesville. Ocala is a small city/large town that is mostly known for horse breeding and racing. Some of the stud farms are owned by Middle Easterners, and I would assume that the money for the mosque (which appears to have taken over an old church) came from them. I have no idea who attends it, however.
The Muslim population here is not huge, but it is well-off and well-connected. I'm not surprised that the 9/11 hijackers saw this as a perfect place to hide out.

Osama would have loved a war of Islam Vs "the West". But, Bush understood the trap. He chose to divide and conquer on his own time. Had this been a war against Islam, the outcome would have been very different. That said, the war of ideas is next, and many of Islam's ideas must be defeated. They're short term good, long term nightmare type ideas. It's one of the reasons they're at war with peoples the world over. Bad ideas breed war.
Let's just say George Bush misunderestimated the latent tendencies of this "peaceful" religion and will deal with it as needed.

Whether he believes it or not, isn't the most important question.
I think what is most critical is making the maximum effort to root out the sleepers before they act. I think supporting the Patriot Act here on Freep is considered kind of controversial. But I think it is absolutely essential if the FBI and other are going to be able to infiltrate the wahabi mosques and masjids.

Many Jews have a strange take on this subject. Some dont realize that this is all part of anti Semitism.
There is a guy by the name of Shapiro who organized a demonstration against Dr. Daniel Pipes who spoke at Georgetown a few nights ago.
This Shapiro fellow is a Jew yet he supports the intifada and the radical islamists.
