Mountain manhunt nets top Taliban
Telegraph ^ | 15 March, 2004 | Hamida Ghafour in Kabul

Posted on 03/14/2004 5:00:29 PM PST by Eurotwit

Three Taliban commanders have been arrested and 12 of the movement's fighters killed as the American military launched an operation in southern Afghanistan aimed at capturing militants, including Osama bin Laden.

The leaders were captured in Zabul, a lawless province in the south where remnants of the ousted regime are fighting for control by bribing and intimidating the local population.

The operation, called Mountain Storm, is backed by air support and was launched a week ago as the US-led coalition intensified its hunt for bin Laden along the Pakistani border.

The Taliban commanders were captured during a joint US-Afghan search for a former Taliban provincial governor. The 12 guerrillas were killed in an air strike in the southern province of Kandahar last Thursday.

The American coalition hopes the fledgling Afghan national army will help to stabilise the border regions where bin Laden is believed to be hiding.

The Pakistani military has dispatched 70,000 soldiers to seal the 1,250-mile border. Tribal militia groups have declared loyalty to the government and have demanded that al-Qa'eda loyalists be handed over by today.

I believe the official mainstream media line is that the U.S. started to fight terrorism in Afghanistan after 9/11/01, but has completely abandoned the effort in favor of the unjustified-and-based-solely-on-lies-about-WMDs war in Iraq.

Seriously. A liberal relative, who reads nothing but the NY Times, told me that the other day, straightfaced.

It would not matter if it were Kerry, or some other preposterous candidate..Gore, the Town Dogcatcher, etc.

Here is one example:

During the last election, as one state fell to Gore, that filthy c********** little b@stard Brokaw slipped up, and said on-camera "We got another one!"

This is the reason the difference in funding and campaign money that Bush supposedly has means nothing; The Media can call anything it wants as "News", and it's opinons as "Some Say..." Reporting.

If I were ever to say what I really feel about the Media, and the remedies I in my heart advocate, I would certainly expect people in grey flannel suits at the door shortly.

Suffice to say I genuinely, viscerally hate the network media.

Yes, they are already a de facto running mate for Kerry.

You're so right! Listened to CNN this morning for JUST 1 hour and it was a nonstop promotional for Kerry. Not even a sound of anything close to "fair and balanced." They just look rediculous they're trying so hard to make him look "electable." And then came Donna Brazille...never closed her mouth and just spewing lies one right after the other...she actually sounded franic to try to get all of the talking points out there. Gee, I'm sure glad things aren't truly as bad as she says.

Oh, wait--Hitlery said we didn't have enough troops left in Afghanistan for a rubber of bridge.

Death to terrorists.

USA! USA! USA!
