Was I out of line against Howard "The Coward" Dean?

Posted on 04/20/2004 11:44:50 AM PDT by LSUsoph

Last night Howard came to speak at Tulane University, where I am a student and proud member of the Tulane College Republicans. Dean was paid 20,000 dollars (which comes out of MY fee bill) to come speak on "How people our age can be politically active" but instead he used it to spew his own venom and completely tear down the right wing and Republican Party, as well as our President. I don't think I have ever seen such a level of unprofessionalism in my life. He opens up and says "I understand even the College Republicans have decided to come today" and following boos he says "haha, we'll deal with them later". He then proceeds to speak about how the right wing is the downfall of our country and how everyone should belong to the DemocRATic party, which was exactly what he WASNT supposed to do. He also kept going on and on about how we all should "invest in small children ages 0-3" and how investing in small children (whatever that means) will solve a lot of our problems. So during Q and A I rushed to the microphone and I was told to address him as "Gov Dean or Dr Dean", but instead I start off by saying "Hi Howard, how you doin'" He said "fine thanks". I say "welcome to the great state of Louisiana". He says "its great to be here". So I get to my question "What percentage of the 20 thousand dollars we are paying you to come here is going to go towards the investment of small children?" After some boos and a puzzled look he says "Well that certainly is a demeaning question, one I dont think I will answer". Over the cheers I say "I expected that from you" and sat down. Was I out of line? I would appreciate any input.

No, good question, and should be asked of every politician whether left or right.

Howard Dean deserves all the contempt he gets. You did good in my book.

You asked a liberal why he's not paying more taxes than Bush wants him to pay. That's a fine question.

No, you weren't out of line. He needs to put his money where his mouth is. He had the audacity to tell you how to spend YOUR money, he ought to tell us how much of HIS money is going to invest in kids.

Little wonder Howie got his @ss handed to him by a weasely pretender like John Kerry...I mean really, if John Kerry kicked him down, he's gotta be really weak.

What kind of reception did he get from your fellow students? Was he generally cheered? (And, no...I don't think you went too far).

Dean intends to answer all the questions he intends to answer, like Clinton kept all the promises he intended to keep.

Nice job. Wish I'd been there to see it.

Not out of line. I'd have asked for a refund, too.

"invest in small children ages 0-3" and how investing in small children (whatever that means)

Brainwashing/mold them while they're young.

OK, that was a full frontal attack that scored a hit, but my preference would have been a more oblique, multi-pronged attack...such as asking the good Governor why his Party dumped him after he changed strategies to finally include displaying the American flag on stage with him at his campaign rallies.

In all honesty, that was a fair question to ask.

I am now laughing my butt off! Brilliant! And I'm not surprised the liberals in the audience booed. They just can't stand a "real" question and the Deans of this world can't answer them, either. If you run for office in Texas you got my vote!

good job. You got the ultimate compliment from a liberal -- you temporarily shut him up.

In my opinion you weren't out of line at all. He's the one that was telling everyone to invest in children from ages 0-3 (not sure why their parents shouldn't be doing that but oh well) you just asked him how much he intended to invest out of his fee.
