After Action Report - Rally of America II - Houston, TX (31 May 2004)
31 May 2004 | PetroniDE

Posted on 05/31/2004 2:35:45 PM PDT by PetroniDE

Memorial Day is not just another holiday that falls on Monday. On this day, we remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our country. We also remember those who are currently defending same.

Despite all the bad news being shown in the media, there is also much good going on in Iraq and Afghanistan, only the media (or most of them) won't tell you. Many of you remember (and attended) the numerous Rallies for America held last year. Radio station KPRC decided to hold another rally today. This rally was at the same location as the previous Houston rally (Jones Plaza).

Hot and humid was the order of the day. Hey, it is Texas in summer-time, we love it. Glenn Beck did his morning show live from Jones Plaza. I had a chance to meet both Glenn Beck (for the first time) and local morning host Pat Gray (whom I have met before). Glenn Beck mentioned one person at the rally that arrived at 6:00 am (that was I). The Freeper "WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" banner was present (as usual).

Good crowd, especially considering the entire production was put together over just a couple of weeks. Once again, Jones Plaza was packed with significant overflow (my estimated crowd between 5000-7000). Pat Gray, Glenn Beck, and KPRC afternoon host Chris Baker served as co-MC.

The only politician that spoke was Houston mayor Bill White. Other speakers included current military members, relatives of current military members, and former military members (including a WWII veteran who served under General Patton). Glenn Beck gave the final speech and the rally closed with the reading of local military members who have given their lives defending our freedom during the war on terror.

Other freepers that attended include Action-America, Buffyt, Flyer, TXLady, and Joyce. If others were there and I missed you, sorry. Flyer, Action-America, and Buffyt took pictures. A few of us went to Slick Willies (pool and bar) across the street from Jones Plaza after the rally.

I don't remember all the names of those who gave speeches; it was too hot to take proper notes.

Best of our knowledge, there were no counter-protestors. The rally was simulcast on KPRC, and Glenn Beck started to mistake a sign near the back as an anti-war sign; once the smaller print was explained, it was understood he was one of the supporters.

Houston Area Ping:

Quick check on the 4:00 news (Channels 2 and 13 only).
Channel 13 had a few clips and mentioned that the crowd was in the thousands.
Didn't see anything on the Channel 2 news. I had to flip back-forth, so they might have had something and just missed it.

You are most welcome. Glenn Beck asked me why I was so early, and I told him "With all that our men (and women) overseas have to put up with, I can drag myself out of bed early this morning to be here for them today".

Excellent. Very nice photographs. Make sure you email them to Glenn Beck. By the way, how was his speech?

By the way, how was his speech?

I had to leave early to go to work. I had it on the radio, but I didn't catch the essence of it.

GREAT pictures Flyer, everything looks just grand ...... well, except that corporal on the left needs to work on his stance.

Petro, you are one of the most committed, and patriotic people I have ever had the pleasure of being associated with.

If they looked up the definition of an American your picture would be right by the word. Thanks bud.

Here is a link to just a few of the 47 photos that I shot at the rally today. One of the photos is of the sign that Glen Beck mistook for an anti-war sign (actually one of the better signs). Thousands were in attendance (see the last photo).

I heard the beginng of the rally on Glen Beck this morning but couldn't be near a puter for the stream. I hope there will be another rally for the 4th of July g-d willing I'll be there for it

Is that Pat Gray, the guy in the blue shirt to whom Glenn is listening intently? He has shed some series pounds!

You better be! If there's no rally, we'll form a crawfish committee and get you fixed up.
