Meanwhile over at the WECC Daily status report, they state...."Other Comments: APS has several system problems that may cause outages in the DSW area. The CAISO is declaring Restricted Maintenance Operations for the period 0700-2200 today due to high loads and temperatures across the ISO control area.

OK, so things could get tight from a power standpoint today. Good Luck California! Also good luck Arizona Public Service and Nevada!

Above all remember that that power crisis is all a creation of vast right wing conspiracies and energy marketing companies.

Well it isn't August yet, and California is dancing on the edge of power outages. Of course the fires are pushing things more than they would have otherwise, but still, things are likely to be nip and tuck this August in California.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier in the day.

So in the future, remember to chill your beer early in the day.

Texas has some used power plants that it needs to get rid of. They might be willing to sell them for the cost of shipping and handling.

04/06/2004

"Faced with a capacity glut in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas region, TXU Energy--the region's largest investor-owned utility--said last week it wants to take several of its older, less-efficient gas-fired power plants offline.

The AC will be running, and I plan to run the washer and dryer this afternoon, as well. That'll help, won't it?

If one exceeds one's emissions allotment due to said deferred maintenance, is it still actionable?

Well, I suppose in an election year, it depends on if you give more money to the DNC or the RNC!

We know that in that past the previous California Governor and Attorney General, felt that even if a power plant broke down, it was the company's fault for not supplying energy and not meeting air pollution requirements and the company was actionable for both accounts.

Sorry I forgot to include you on my originial list of folks.

Of course. During the 2001 crisis when California demanded that plants run at full output, they still socked them with the fines and called them energy pirates to boot. The Huntington Beach plant comes to mind.

I don't plan to swelter. The first year we were having the rolling blackouts, hubby and I were living in an apartment, 2nd floor, west and south exposures. It got hot up there. Not warm - hot. I was running the AC, and a neighbor said to me that we were not supposed to use our appliances like the AC, washers, dryers, etc. until after 7. Well, I let her have it. Call Doofus and report me! I wasn't going to suffer in the heat because Doofus couldn't the state couldn't figure out how to let companies produce and distribute enough electricity for the state. We bought a house since then, and have a lot more square feet to heat and cool, more appliances, etc. and I'm going to be comfortable, thank you very much.

The video of the Santa Clarita fire on Fox last night clearly showed what looked like a 500KV line (could have been 230 or 115) surrounded by fire. Obviously, that line had to have been switched out.

I'm not sure why they're acting so nervous. It looks like they've got plenty of reserve capacity, well in excess of even higher than forecast demand.

I've got the A/C cranked up to "blizzard". If we ever want this state to build another power plant, we need to cause some blackouts to wake people up.

Also good luck Arizona Public Service and Nevada!

Did you mean to select the topic "US: Arizona" instead of "US: Alaska"?

I'm not sure why they're acting so nervous. It looks like they've got plenty of reserve capacity, well in excess of even higher than forecast demand.

And what state do you think those reserves are physically located in? If a transmission path goes out, could it cause more than the amount of needed reserves to disappear?

California survives this time of year on imports from the PNW over the AC and DC interties and interties to the Desert SW. The DC intertie is undergoing maintenance due to stuff that LADWP needs done and was approved by CAL ISO. The other life line of power to Southern California from the Desert SW is marginal due to fires over there. Click here for WECC Daily Report

If this is past 7/20, then you need to find the 7/20 daily report on the WECC Website as they change what is in the daily report most days..

The CMRC reported the following outages for today:

From 0000-2400 the COI (Path 66) will be limited to 4,330 MW north to south and 2,450 MW south to north due to area resource maintenance, Sylmar Converters #1 & #2.

From 0000-1600 the PDCI is limited to 1,690 MW north to south and 925 MW south to north due to Sylmar Valve Group #6.

From 1600-2400 the PDCI is limited to 1,956 MW north to south and 1,070 south to north due to Celilo Converters #2 & #4.

From 0000-2400 the Path 44 (South of SONGS) is limited to 1,680 MW north to south due to tielines 23021 and 23022 contingency.

From 0000-2400 the SCIT is limited to 14,200 MW due to Miguel series capacitor replacement work
