Pakistani in custody had film of Dallas, other cities 12:15 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 Associated Press CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Federal officials charged a Pakistani citizen with immigration violations and said Tuesday the man was detained last month after being spotted taking videotapes of downtown skyscrapers. A federal affidavit unsealed Tuesday said a review of the tape in Kamran Akhtar's camera and others in his possession showed film of the downtown Wachovia Bank and Bank of America headquarters buildings in Charlote, N.C., as well as film of other major U.S. cities, including Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas, Houston and Austin, Texas. Also, according to an affidavit by John Scott Sherrill, a federal immigration agent, Akhtar's videotapes showed what appeared to be the Mansfield Dam in Austin and public transportation systems.

In one way, this is good news because he was caught before he could do anything. On the other hand, though, he's just the tip of the iceberg.

Sure, likely story.

You're just trying to get your point across with emphasis, eh?

Wow, I live in Austin, and blowing Mansfield Dam would do some massive damage to the city. I hope it is well secured, but knowing the competence of the Austin city council I doubt it. Wouldn't want to offend the Islamic community.

Fox 7 News reported at noon that along with Mansfield dam, they had pics of the Capitol (where I am, whoo hoo), the Governor's Mansion, and the new Frost Bank Building at 4th and Congress.

Mansfield dam is secured by the LCRA. Don't know anything about their level of incompetence...

Funny how we've been talking about this non-stop surveillance by ME's of infrastructure and transportation facilities for YEARS now on Free Republic and it's only just suddenly hit the mainstream media . . . we already know the stuff we're hearing about now is only the tip of the iceberg . . .

Our national culture and national myth, repeatedly stated and articulated by American presidents, both Democrat and Republican, and backed up by Congress, symbolized by the Statue of Liberty. It will (unfortunately) take a islamofascist WMD in the United States with a capacity of killing at least 30,000 of our fellow citizens, before the US seriously CLOSES THE NATIONAL BORDERS AND STOPS IMMIGRATION COMPLETELY to review all systems. It is a shame for those not yet killed that uncessarily will be killed. One only has to question how many German citizens and Japanese citizens we allowed to immigrate to the United States from 1941 to 1945. Difference is, we were at WAR then AND WE KNEW IT. This time, we are at WAR, but we don't really know it yet (or at least our leaders do not know).

3,000+ in NYC/DC/Pennsylvania three years ago was not enough.

Western political correctness and Judeo Christian benevolent naivete will be our downfall, or at least the source of a lot of future misery and horrible images. Sad. Very sad indeed

You can't drive across the dam anymore, but as of a few months ago you could drive up to the edge of it, and the metal gate that blocked the road wasn't truck proof by any means. A truck could smash right through it and then blow itself up on the dam. I don't know enough civil engineering (I'm an aero guy) to know if a truck bomb could destroy the dam or not.

Well for you old farts out there you might remember the UT Tower sniper was held down with return fire from 30-30 rifles from ranchers who just happened to be in Austin that day. Now with conceal carry a lot more common citizens are armed. The IslamicFacist Wahhabist Terrorist will have a harder time making it to step two in Texas. This makes several Terrorist probes into Texas. First we had some ME types snooping around the huge Dow chemical plant at Freeport, then this South African lady who swam the Rio Grand attempting to catch a plane in McAllen, and now this. I think they are wanting to hit the Bush family here in Texas, Houston and Austin would be prime targets.
