One poll found that more than half the voters questioned had seen or heard of an ad by Swift Boat Veterans For Truth that accuses Kerry of lying about events that earned him five medals in Vietnam a generation ago. The University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey also found that 44 percent of self-described independent voters found the ad very or somewhat believable.
Separately, a CBS poll found a sharp drop in Kerry's support among both veterans since the end of the Democratic Convention.
Kerry's campaign scripted the convention, which ended three weeks ago, to establish him as a battle-tested veteran ready to assume command in an era of terrorism. Polls after the convention indicated he had made considerable progress toward that goal.
In a commercial that officials said was filmed on Thursday, the Democratic Party showed retired Air Force General Merrill A. McPeak saying he had endorsed Bush four years ago but was backing Kerry now.
.............That message is sharply at odds with the image portrayed in the anti-Kerry ad -- the one the Massachusetts senator denounced on Thursday when he said Bush was relying on front groups to "do his dirty work."
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said several times that the senator's Thursday comments showed he had lost his cool, a suggestion that Bush's rival lacked presidential temperament.
"I do think that Senator Kerry losing his cool should not be an excuse for him to lash out at the president with false and baseless attacks," the spokesman told reporters in Crawford, Texas.
"We've already said we weren't involved in any way in these ads," he said. "We've made that clear."

It's still june???? ;)
The last paragraph in the Daily Telegraph (London) ***A CBS poll yesterday showed that Mr Kerry's support had slumped. Bush and Kerry were even on 46 per cent backing from former servicemen late last month. Now Mr Bush leads with 55 per cent to Mr Kerry's 37. One American voter in six has served in the armed forces.***
Why on earth is he continuing to lean on the one crutch that can weaken him most? Is the rest of his campaign really that bad? That this is the best he has?
Perhaps the senate stuff is worse than the Vietnam skeletons...
Slap down.
Execution: Perfect 10

John Kerry directing VVAW's (Vietnam Veterans Against the War) massive pro-Hanoi demonstration in Washington. - April 1971
Lie #1) John Kerry claimed all the Swift Boats fled the scene on March 13th, 1969 after the #3 boat hit a mine. Kerry claims it was him who turned his boat around, directly into enemy fire to rescue James Rassman........
FACT: John Kerry was the only OIC of a Swift Boat to flee the scene immediately after the #3 Boat struck the mine. According to John Kerry's own report, he had to navigate his Boat through 5,000 Meters "Intense Enemy Fire" from both shore lines. That means John Kerry fled the scene for a distance of 2.7 miles. At a top speed of 50 MPH, that would mean John Kerry ran away for at least 3 minutes before turning around! All 4 other Swift Boat OIC say there was no enemy fire..... Who Should we believe?
Lie #2) John Kerry claims in his book "Tour of Duty" that the turning point against the War for him was when he was ordered into Cambodia on Christmas Eve 1968. John Kerry says that experience was seared into his memory because everyone was being told by Richard Nixon that we were not entering Cambodia.
FACT: John Kerry has already changed his toon on this subject, by explaining it away as something that happened a long time ago and that he was most likely near Cambodia. In 1996 he spoke from the Senate Floor and used this "Seared" memory to denounce the efforts of Ronald Reagan to arm the Contra's in South America. John Kerry LIED
These two major lies should be enough to bring him and his multi billionaire, ultra liberal whack jobs, to their knee's

I wonder if they work for John Kerry's cousin who has huge business interests in Vietnam.
I've read Barnes 'bloody shirt' column, too. It is excellent.
Retired Gen. George S. Patton III charged that Mr. Kerry's actions as an anti-war activist had "given aid and comfort to the enemy," as had the actions of Ramsey Clark and Jane Fonda. Also, Mr. Kerry lied when he threw what he claimed were his war medals over the White House fence; he later admitted they weren't his. Now they are displayed on his office wall.
Long after he changed sides in congressional hearings, Mr. Kerry lobbied for renewed trade relations with Hanoi. At the same time, his cousin C.Stewart Forbes, chief executive for Colliers International, assisted in brokering a $905 million deal to develop a deep-sea port at Vung Tau, Vietnam ? An odd coincidence.
As noted in the Inside Politics column of Nov. 14 (Nation), historian Douglas Brinkley is writing Mr. Kerry's biography. Hopefully, he'll include the senator's latest ignominious feat: preventing the Vietnam Human Rights Act (HR2833) from coming to a vote in the Senate, claiming human rights would deteriorate as a result. His actions sent a clear signal to Hanoi that Congress cares little about the human rights for which so many Americans fought and died. The State Department ranked Vietnam among the 10 regimes worldwide least tolerant of religious freedom. Recently, 354 churches of the Montagnards, a Christian ethnic minority, were forcibly disbanded, and by mid-October, more than 50 Christian pastors and elders had been arrested in Dak Lak province alone. On Oct. 29, the secret police executed three Montagnards by lethal injection simply for protesting religious repression. The communists are conducting a pogrom against the Montagnards, forcing Christians to drink a mixture of goat's blood and alcohol and renounce Christianity. Thousands have been killed or imprisoned or have just "disappeared." The Montagnards lost one-half of their adult male population fighting for the United States, and without them, there might be thousands more American names on that somber black granite wall at the Vietnam memorial.
As Mr. Kerry contemplates a run for the presidency, people must remember that he has fought harder for Hanoi as an anti-war activist and a senator than he did against the Vietnamese communists while serving in the Navy in Vietnam.
