He lauds state tradition of 'common sense' on arrival
Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry emphasized Wisconsin's "common sense" tradition of open debate when he stopped briefly in Madison Sunday afternoon before heading to Spring Green, where he will spend the next three days prepping for his first debate with President Bush later this week.
"It is great to be back in Wisconsin again," the Massachusetts senator told a crowd of about 200 gathered at a private runway on the northeast side. "I can't think of a better place to come to prepare for this debate. You guys have a great tradition of open debate, a lot of good thinking, common sense, and I came here just to tap right into it."
Kerry's plane touched down about 2 p.m., and the presidential hopeful emerged wearing khaki slacks, a blue plaid shirt and a blue blazer. As the crowd chanted "Kerry, Kerry," the grinning Kerry waved and pumped his fists in the air.
During his brief remarks, Kerry attacked Bush's strategy in the war in Iraq.
"This month, as many of you know, we passed a very cruel milestone in the war in Iraq. More than 1,000 of our sons and daughters have died in Iraq," Kerry said.
Ol' Frenchie probably drank an Amstel Light. And had the Secret Service run the beer mug through an autoclave before pouring the beer into it.
Were they playing at "Lambert" Field? aaarrrrrrggggggg!
Spring Green Prepares for Kerry
(Spring Green, Iowa County) Wisconsin democrats say they're happy to have John Kerry back in the state for several days next week. Kerry chose the quiet and scenic town of Spring Green to sharpen his debating skills.
"I think they all think they should get the Wisconsin vote." That may be one reason Senator Kerry is coming to the House on the Rock Resort for three days next week.
But another is the seclusion needed to prepare for three presidential debates. "This is a chance before the whole series starts to take a breather, get off the campaign trail and get focused on what he needs to do to get out his message," says George Twigg from Kerry's campaign in Wisconsin.
Twigg says the House on the Rock Resort offers privacy and has the room to accommodate a large staff and all the national press. It's where kerry will study and rehearse. "We'll have somebody standing in for George Bush and they'll actually run through what the debates will actually be like," says Twigg.
It will be intense inside and could be outside as well. "If this is a three day stay, it will be quite an intense period of time for us as a small agency," says Iowa County Sheriff Steve Michek.
The Sheriff adds security issues have not been finalized, including who gets the bill for what may be lots of extra hours. "That discussion may come up in the future, but right now I'd hate to comment on whether or not Iowa County would bill either the Kerry campaign or the Bush campaign should they choose to visit Iowa County," says Sheriff Michek.
And as Spring Green prepares to become the center of attention, each side is complimenting the others' ability to argue their case. "Look, Senator Kerry is a very able debater, he's spent 20 years in the world's greatest deliberative body," says Ed Gillespie, chairman of the Republican National Committee. "George Bush is an excellent debater he's never lost a debate he's been in," says Twigg.
Kerry arrives on Sunday, but right now there are no public events scheduled.

On another thread with some of those pics, it was pointed out that this place looks a bit like a gay bar (pink straws in the beer mugs, etc.)...maybe those bar patrons ARE "packers"...

So, is this an admission that up until now, he hasn't had open debate, a lot of good thinking, and common sense?
Finally, he tells a truth.
And he was heard to shout,as he tipped his frothy mug,
