Grumble...Halliburton...Grumble...Questions...
Pacetown ^ | 10.05.2004 | Jeremy Chrysler

Sometimes, when I ask my neo-liberal friends questions about this administration's policies a get a short grumbling treatise on something about Halliburton, corporate corruption, a litlte more about Halliburton, and maybe no-bid contracts.

These dots, I take, I am supposed to connect to reveal a sinister portrait of this man, the Vice President of the United States (and almost assuredly the President of Vice), Dick Cheney:

You've probably heard of all the corruption yourself. I admit, it looks pretty bad that the former CEO of Halliburton becomes VPUS, then, a few years later, his former company gets billions in a 'no bid' contract to profit from the war. But it might not be as bad as it looks. A quick read of Jim Geraghty's piece in the National Review today reveals the following:

And I hope they bring up the fact Clinton gave no bid contracts in Bosnia and Kosovo. Who the hell could do this work? NOBODY!

Um, it's either Halliburton or it's the French company Schlumberger.
Let's see who the American people would prefer.

Once again. If the news is good it's just plain ole Halliburton. If it's bad it's Dick Cheneys old company.

Speaking of Bosnia and Kosovo, why doesn't the Bush team bring THAT pre-emptive war up...and... THERE NEVER WAS A THREAT TO THE US, EMINENT OR OTHERWISE, FROM THAT REGION OF THE WORLD!!! While I understand Klinton will always get a pass from the MSM, why from the Bush team too?

How many Halliburton employees and subcontractors have died in Iraq? I believe it is 40 or more. How many companies would tolerate 40 deaths in a year? Not many. I would think a company that takes on this job should be getting the equivalent of combat pay.

Schlumberger is an American company and doesn't have the subsidiaries to compete with Halliburton for the contracts in Iraq.

And who Kerry would prefer . . .

I can't believe the Democrats get so far with this drivel. Sometimes i fear the Republicans don't fight back hard enough, but I suppose they don't want to dignify the worst of the lies with a response. Has Kerry been asked to take a pledge not to use Haliburton? Someone should ask him, and watch him stammer.

Really, I get so frustrated with the lies from the left. I'm going to log off so I don't violate the obscenity rule.

Later! :)

Actually - having spent 2 years as a SLB Field Engineer I know that they don't have the capabilities that Halliburton does outside the oilfield. Halliburton has a huge commissary and infrastructure business that SLB doesn't duplicate. The oilfield stuff sure - the construction stuff - nope.

I've read that Cheney has his stock options in a blind trust, and that he's purchased an insurance policy guaranteeing the deferred compensation. Assuming that's true, the claims that he profits from Halliburton are completely bogus.

But I also read somewhere that he has a lot of shares in Vanguard, which (allegedly) is Halliburton's largest shareholder. If that is true -- and I have no idea if its actually the case -- then he at least has an indirect interest in Halliburton. Anyone know anything about that? I'd really like to shut up some lefties on this, and thought I had it covered until I heard about Vanguard.

You would only have to admit that because you don't know the facts don't blame yourself for being ignorant on the issue. Halliburton has done a lot of work for the military in the past including during the Gulf War in '91, The military liked their performance back then and requested that they use them again because they know how they worked and knew they could get the job done. The money Cheney now gets from Halliburton is FIXED which means it doesn't matter how much they make Cheney gets the same amount, if Halliburton loses money Cheney gets the same amount... IT IS FIXED, Cheney has NO reason to boost Halliburtons profits...

And Clinton used Halliburton in Bosnia and Kosovo...

And with no-bid contracts as well!

You can bet Cheney will have those facts and more!

Sorry, I've been with SLB for 13 years, going on 14, and it is NOT a French company. Sure, the Schlum. brothers were French but where is HQ??? That's right, New York! It is not considered a French company anymore.

Funny when I was with them the CEO was out of France despite the logging HQ being out of NY. I will politely agree to disagree.
