I would imagine that a lot of this has to do with giving and tithing at church. Church attendance is, I believe conderably higher in the south. Further, I don't know if Catholic churches, which are far more prevalent in the Northeast, stress giving and tithing like their more fundamentalist counterparts in the South. Anybody know?
