I heard this on Rush today. He brought it up but said Massachusetts was dead last (so I thought).

I would imagine that a lot of this has to do with giving and tithing at church. Church attendance is, I believe conderably higher in the south. Further, I don't know if Catholic churches, which are far more prevalent in the Northeast, stress giving and tithing like their more fundamentalist counterparts in the South. Anybody know?

Mississippi retains its title as the most giving state for the eighth consecutive year ping!

"Mississippi consistently earns its place as No. 1 on the list by generating the greatest disparity between income and charitable contributions. It is ranked as the poorest state in the nation, but comes in fifth on the index for its "giving" rank.

The average itemized filer in Mississippi reported $4,484 in donations in 2002. That beats the national average by $1,029."

Now, all we need is some creative people. ;o)

Libs only want to give to the less fortunate if they can give with someone elses money.

I would have expected Arkansas to drop after the Clintons moved to NY and HRC stopped donating Bill's (used) boxers, then writing off the donation.
