It look like Phil Angelides (and his "ghost" org, StanUpForCalifornia.com) are using a "web petition" against a lawsuit by automakers {e.g. in response to the draconian, pending emissions requirements in California) as a means of generating political steam (and getting a really neat list of supporters for a 2006 bid for governor?). You can always count on the Left Coast "Progressives" to use every trick in the book to try and discredit the Cal GOP and to slyly build a support group to attack The Govinator. Same-ole, same-ole .....

What a joke, after you sign the petition (naturally, with a made up name, especially one meant to aggravate their list sanitizers!) and give them one addition email address of a "friend" (in my case, a yahoo junk account) it throws you right onto Angelides' main site. Bleah!

I wish car manufacturers would stop making cars to California standards > Make them go a few years with the old cars they would change their minds fast.

Indeed. Make them to more rational standards, then charge extra for the Cali ones, which would be modified by aftermarket hardware to comply. Of course, I would not underestimate the lack of market rationality I see here at times. I know people who are going out to buy hybrids because of the current spike in fuel costs. I've followed fuel costs for years and would have to say that chances are, they will cycle down at some point. And then, all those overpriced and underperforming hybrids will make their owners look like rubes.

Wait till they have to replace the battery's in those Hybrids.

The Hybrids I looked at got about 50 Miles per Gallon, The Diesel Volkswagen Jetta gets almost the same and it has power and looks like a car.
