Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles,
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Hebrews 12: 1

Dear Heavenly Father, as we are reminded that our days here on earth are as the grass that withers and then is gone, we are also reminded that our days on earth are not the end of the story, but that through the resurrection of Your Son, Jesus, we can experience life eternal with You. We are thankful for that great cloud of witnesses that surround us, who have gone on before, and know that we must too run with perseverance, enduring the toil, and sometimes suffering that brings us closer to being holy as You are holy.

We thank You for the life of Pope John Paul, and the example he was to people of all denominations, of strength and courage, morality and Christ-likeness. We thank You that he stood firmly for a culture of life, and we thank You that President Bush is also a warrior in this battle for the sanctity of all human life, and the need for America to stand once again for the right to Life. We ask that You would grant protection to President and Mrs. Bush as they travel to Italy on Friday, and that, even there, he might be a witness to Your love in his heart. We ask continued guidance in each decision he must make, that he would be attuned to Your will for himself, and for this nation. We ask that he might be granted the wisdom that he seeks, and that he might lead a life that is consistent with Your will and Your teachings. We ask that You would keep him from any sin that would hinder him from fellowship with You, and we ask that he might be pure in heart, in word and in deed. Bless him abundantly, dear Lord, and give him great joy and peace each day.

Father, we continue to uphold our brave military as they are serving in harm's way, and ask that You place a blanket of protection over them. We are reminded Lord, that there have been many miracles where we have seen Your hand at work in keeping them safe, and we thank You. Lord, please be a real presence among them, and be especially with those who have been injured that they might be healed in body and in spirit, and return to lives of fulfillment and peace. We pray as well for the families of those who have fallen that they might be comforted.

Dear Lord, we ask that You would speak to this nation, and send a revival such as we have never seen. So many things have happened that make us believe that Your Holy Spirit is at work among us. Use us, Lord to be Your instruments of love and compassion, that we might be a sweet fragrance in a world that is rank with sin. We pray that Terri Schiavo's tragic death might be used for Your glory, that the complacent among us might be awakened to see the dark path that we are on. We ask that You would use the increased awareness of the lack of value placed on human life to bring us closer to Your side, and bring us to obedience to Your laws. Father, help us to be bold witnesses, unashamed of the Gospel, and help us to run with perseverance the race marked out for us. In the strong name of Jesus, who is the Risen Christ we pray, Amen!

I'll pray for traveling mercies for the Presidential Party going to the Pope's funeral...but I'm not very happy about the Republican Party lately. They're all asleep at the wheel.

To: ohioWfan; All

AMEN OHIO AND AMEN ALL!
GRACE,PEACE,INFINITE MERCY TO ALL BRETHREN!

Thou God of my end,

Thou hast given me a fixed disposition

to go forth and spend my life for thee;

If it be thy will let me proceed in it;

if not, then revoke my intentions.

All I want in life is such circumstances

as may best enable me to serve thee in the world;

To this end I leave all my concerns in thy hand,

but let me not be discouraged,

for this hinders my spiritual fervency;

Enable me to undertake some task for thee,

for this refreshes and animates my soul,

so that I could endure all hardships and labours,

and willingly suffer for thy name.

But, O what a death it is to strive and labour,

to be always in a hurry and yet do nothing!

Alas, time flies and I am of little use.

O that I could be a flame of fire in thy service,

always burning out in one continual blaze.

Fit me for singular usefulness in this world.

Fit me to exult in distresses of every kind

if they but promote the advancement

of thy kingdom.

Fit me to quit all hopes of the world’s friendship,

and give me a deeper sense of my sinfulness.

Fit me to accept as just desert from thee

any trial that may befall me.

Fit me to be totally resigned to the denial

of pleasures I desire,

and to be content to spend my time with thee.

Fit me to pray with a sense of the joy

of divine communion,

to find all times happy seasons to my soul,

to see my own nothingness,

and wonder that I am allowed to serve thee.

Fit me to enter the blessed world

where no unclean thing is,

and to know thee with me always.

A PURITANS PRAYER!

"On him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus."
- Luke 23:26

We see in Simon's carrying the cross a picture of the work of the Church
throughout all generations; she is the cross-bearer after Jesus. Mark
then, Christian, Jesus does not suffer so as to exclude your suffering. He
bears a cross, not that you may escape it, but that you may endure it.
Christ exempts you from sin, but not from sorrow.
Remember that, and expect to suffer.

But let us comfort ourselves with this thought, that in our case, as in
Simon's, it is not our cross, but Christ's cross which we carry. When you
are molested for your piety; when your religion brings the trial of cruel
mockings upon you, then remember it is not your cross, it is Christ's
cross; and how delightful is it to carry the cross of our Lord Jesus!

You carry the cross after him. You have blessed company; your path is
marked with the footprints of your Lord. The mark of his blood-red
shoulder is upon that heavy burden.
'Tis his cross, and he goes before you as a shepherd goes before his
sheep.
Take up your cross daily, and follow him.

Do not forget, also, that you bear this cross in partnership. It is the
opinion of some that Simon only carried one end of the cross, and not the
whole of it.
That is very possible; Christ may have carried the heavier part, against
the transverse beam, and Simon may have borne the lighter end.
Certainly it is so with you; you do but carry the light end of the cross,
Christ bore the heavier end.

And remember, though Simon had to bear the cross for a very little while,
it gave him lasting honour.
Even so the cross we carry is only for a little while at most, and then
we shall receive the crown, the glory.
Surely we should love the cross, and, instead of shrinking from it, count
it very dear, when it works out for us "a far more exceeding and eternal
weight of glory.
"

C.H.SPURGEON!

SOLI DEO GLORIA!

Lord, I also pray for the president's entourage's safety in Europe Friday.

The Christian world this week is reminded of ecclesial issues. No matter what one's theological stripe, it is imperative that Christians strive for the unity of the faith, and keep traditions and secondary doctrine in perspective. No matter what church history we may have, I pray that each ecclesial body would be faithful to Your Word. Let them come up to that royal Standard, and let them not go beyond what is written. Let love abound, and beyond that let the best doctrine win.

Or rather, let the presence of the Spirit within us win over both us and those who disagree with us. We need a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit to empower us for the work ahead. That work is great; there is much that remains to be done. We trust that You are at work in the hearts of the believers, of each one who is willing to be discipled, bringing us to perfection.

A world is waiting to be turned upside down again by a Christian witness. Though we are slandered at every turn, the truth will eventually out. Just as we have seen progress in this nation, so now we begin to see progress in the world. Formerly closed lands are opening up, and our hope and our charge is to carry freedom and the Gospel into these lands. In the eighties and nineties the challenge was the looming Communist empire. That battle has been won, the enemy converted. And now we see our leaders of yesterday leaving the world stage in rapid succession. A new day is upon us, with a new and equally great challenge . We pray for our leaders to be up to this task.

The persecution of the brethren around the world is vicious. We pray for those who suffer for their identification with Your Cross. And may we not shrink from ours.

Joining you in prayer.

We're pilgrims on the journey
Of the narrow road
And those who've gone before us line the way
Cheering on the faithful, encouraging the weary
Their lives a stirring testament to God's sustaining grace

Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses
Let us run the race not only for the prize
But as those who've gone before us
Let us leave to those behind us
The heritage of faithfulness passed on through godly lives

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave
Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful

After all our hopes and dreams have come and gone
And our children sift through all we've left behind
May the clues that they discover and the memories they uncover
Become the light that leads them to the road we each must find

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave
Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
Find Us Faithful, Jon Mohr
