An edited version of the Pledge of Allegiance has raised a controversy at Everitt Middle School in Wheat Ridge.
Eighth-grade counselor Margo Lucero, filling in for absent principal Kathleen Norton, changed a portion of the Pledge from "one nation under God" to "one nation under your belief system," while on the public- address system Wednesday morning.

And the woman is a school counselor? I can imagine the wisdom she imparts to the students when they want counseling.

That almost sounds like a Saturday Night Live send up, doesn't it? One nation, UNDER YOUR BELIEF SYSTEM?????? It's funny. Kinda. If it weren't so sad, of course.

"one nation under your belief system,"
It has a certain ring to it. Reminds me of the famous addendum to the Casey decision.

""It should not have occurred. The counselor, Ms. Lucero, did not have the authority to change the pledge.""
Ya Don't Say! And does she realize that now?

Good LORD woman...kids that age don't have belief SYSTEMS yet. It's our job to see to it they get some.
This reminds me- I happened to be in school the day JFK was shot. Out principal got on the loudspeaker and gave us the news...accompanied by a prayer. My teacher hit her knees and took out her rosary and began to pray. This was a PUBLIC school. No one- not one person ever thought twice about either the prayer or my teacher's reaction- except that it was a pretty normal reaction.

How stupid and petty can one get. I guess she never thought about offending the people who like having "G*d" in the pledge.
Once again a liberal without a clue turns ignorance into her cause.

I was wondering when this might happen. I live in Jefferson County and was proud that my son's elementary school still said the pledge in full.
Seems like when you say "God" you would only be offending the atheists. Muslims believe in a God, Buddhists believe in a God, Hindus believe in a God(s), Jews believe in a God, and so on. Not the same God, but so what?
Looked through a few history books, too. Still moderately okay. No hate America for this or blame America for that.

She said Norton was apologetic but Lucero wasn't. "She said, 'Yes, I said that because I believe that there should be separation between church and school. I'll do you one better, Seperation of Child and State.
I am so damn sick of paying for this crap and I'm not religious(I can't imagine how ticked the religious folks are).

Lucero's apparent attempt to be more inclusive met with some rancor
Hmm, seems more like an apparent attempt to be divisive, and stir controversy. Poor reporting.
