Two men seen taking pictures of the George Washington Bridge from an inflatable raft in the Hudson River yesterday afternoon were taken into custody by the police when they came ashore.
The police said last night that no arrests had been made, but Sgt. Brian Mullen of the 34th Precinct said that charges against the men, who were not identified, were pending. One possible charge was unauthorized use of the raft in the wrong place, he said.

Would be in line with prior intelligence info. of being on the lookout for an aquatic attack.
they should rightly be held as enemy combatants - but the left and the media has won that part of the war, stigmatizing use of such measures which are proper in this case, and I doubt the administration will do it.
hold them, question them, search their homes, their computers - if they can't come up with some plausible explanation why they were photographing the bridge from a raft - look into every aspect of their lives.
Two Yemeni men in a raft, photographing a bridge. Boy am I profiling like hell. These guys need to be interogated to the max. Agter 9/11, Madrid and Boston we just can not aford to be the nice guys any longer.
Notice that the NY Times article doesn't even state that they were Yemeni.
This all may change if the #30 bus bomber turns out to have been a released Guatanamo detainee as reported by the Northeast Intelligence Network.
If true both the Bush admin. and the Democrats may want to keep this under wraps, though it may not be true.
Sad that it takes things like this to possibly turn it around.
In a war on terror there is little room for worrying about "racial profiling".
I am sure those on Flight 93 didn't worry about it.
100% of the 9/11 terrorists were of Middle Eastern descent.
Some leftist media traitors don't even want us to use the word terrorist, they may prefer that we call them freedom fighters.
Left is "see no evil" blind.
Moral relativism, few of them can answer questions about what is right and wrong.
I used GOOGLE and hit Yemeni Terrorism. I learned that it is a "poor Muslim country" and is a haven for Al Qaeda. I believe that this is almost certainly " a war of nerves".
Not long after 9/11, at the International border- Sault Ste Marie Michigan, some men of "middle eastern appearance" were taking videos of the International Bridge and the huge locking system. The local police were( so it was claimed) informed by customs officials. Whatever the rights of it, the men may have got a pass. The FBI were brought in.
Later the men were identified from Dearborn, Michigan. You can imagine, though panic did not ensue, the consternation of folks. Dearborn is the largest Arabic community in America. It was said that "nothing could be done under the existing laws". A "war of nerves"- they must not win.
> Notice that the NY Times article doesn't even state that they were Yemeni.
Well, it does disclose the following in the 3rd graph, but Yemeni is ntl left out:
"...the men, who the police said appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent, were taking pictures near the bridge."
As if maybe these guys were American citizens out for a nice boat ride...
While I'm all in favor of interrogating these guys, I am shocked to learn that "...unauthorized use of raft in the wrong place" is a criminal statute/City ordinance in New York (state or city). Is this perhaps distinct from mere unauthorized use of raft in the right place, or authorized use in the wrong place?
You can't be within 25 yards of any bridge "pier or abutment"
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly was on Fox & Friends this AM and said they found no evidence that these guys were taking pictures and think he said they were released. I seem to remember this happening once before...quite a while ago....men were seen at night in a raft at the foot of a NY bridge (can't remember which bridge..maybe Brooklyn)but men eluded police at that time.
The NYT will report that he was driven to terrorism by the inhumane conditions at Guatanamo
What? The Circle Line wasn't running?
in fact, alot of these incidents are probes into our system - these guys may be full blown terrorists, they may just be "jihadi wanna-bes" out for a laugh.
but what is shows us is that the criminal justice system cannot be used to defend against these guys. if it is, we lose. The Brits are going to learn this the hard way, they are going to be hit again unless they stop treating the london bombings as "crimes".
Camera Incident ping
You are obviously an evil conservative. Why not put some flowers in your hair and give peace a chance. (sarcasm)
> ... they found no evidence that these guys were taking pictures
The evidence is safe in Davy Jones's locker.
> they were released
Pity.
