Heavenly Father,

We come before You again in praise and adoration, thankful for Your trustworthiness and steadfastness. In a world that seems turned upside down, Your constancy reassures us and comforts us. The hope that we have through Your gift of salvation brings us unspeakable joy. Lord, we are grateful for Your mercy and Your eternal love. We bow before You, recognizing You as the One True God, all-powerful and all-knowing. Lord, we ask You to guide our steps and show us how You would have us live that we might glorify Your Name through our words and our actions.

Father, we continue in prayer without ceasing for our Christian brother and our President, George W. Bush. He is beset by enemies, both foreign and domestic, who desire his downfall and will go to any lengths to bring about his destruction. Lies, deceit, and distortion are their currency as they try to find ways to remove this man from his seat of power. Because he calls Your Name and heeds Your voice, we claim Your protection over him. Surround him and his family as with a shield and protect them from all harm - physical, spiritual, or political. Lord, lead him down the path of righteousness and fill him with wisdom, discernment, patience, and persistence. Let his faith, and the faith of all his family, grow greater each day that they may rely on You in all aspects of their lives.

We always remember those who serve our nation in the armed forces and we ask that You defend them as they seek to defend our liberty and to bring freedom to others. Let their families honor their decisions to volunteer for this dangerous duty and treat those decisions with respect and dignity. We cannot imagine the grief of those who have lost loved ones in battle but we fail to understand the bitterness that would cause one to betray the very cause for which their loved one died. Lord, we pray for those who are confused in their grief and are supporting the ones who took the lives of their sons and daughters rather than using their energies to lift up their loved ones and the cause for which they fought. Comfort them, O Lord, and bring to them the peace that passes understanding that comes only from a personal relationship with You. Let them be still and know that You are God.

Father, we are stunned at the depths to which some in our nation will sink because of their greed for power and control. There is apparently nothing that they will not do in order to advance their own agenda. Lord, we are wrestling against an enemy far more powerful and devious than we are; we must turn to You, Who have already won the victory over evil. Bring revival to our nation, O Lord! Quicken the hearts of those who have turned their backs on You and who are following the prince of darkness as he entices them with his wiles. Restore in our land a desire to know You, to hallow Your Name, and to obey Your commandments. In the Name of Him Who died for our sins, Jesus, the Christ. Amen.

In agreement with the Presidential prayer team, we pray for President and Mrs. Bush as they continue a working vacation at Prairie Chapel Ranch, and ask You, God, protect them both at home and as they travel. We ask You for meaningful moments of reflection and encouragement from the Lord.

We pray for our President as he works for Social Security reform, speaking with Americans and working with members of Congress. May he hear Your direction and have the wisdom needed to make the right decisions in the right way.

In light of the news that 9/11 terrorists were in the country prior to the attacks, we pray for the ongoing efforts of all our country's intelligence agencies, asking You to powerfully protect us against future attacks and to uncover any terrorist cells. There is nothing hidden that won't come to the Light.

We give thanks for the success of Discovery's mission, and pray for Your guidance and wisdom for NASA Director Michael Griffin and his team as they seek to launch the next mission as soon as possible.

We pray also for the President and Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman as they implement the new energy bill signed this week. We pray that God will guide and give them insight.

We pray for those developing the Iraqi constitution, that their efforts will benefit the greater good for that nation.

We pray for the members of Congress as they continue their summer recess, asking God to guide them as they listen to the local people they represent so that their efforts during the next session will benefit the greater good.

As the Pentagon has announced the need for increased numbers of troops to be deployed to Iraq, we pray for those who will be called up, that they will be well prepared in body mind and spirit, and we pray for their loved ones as they begin service.

Thank You, Father, for hearing and answering these petitions in the name of our Savior, Jesus, the Christ. Amen.
