Boston, Massachusetts (AHN) - The Massachusetts state legislature is considering mandatory mental health counseling for National Guardsmen returning from Iraq.
Currently, the uniform regulation for mental health screenings apply only for career military members and is usually done by questionaire. The state wants to screen the Guardsmen for Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome, a mental health disorder that commonly affects people who have been subject to life altering events. Symptoms include nightmares, flashbacks, depression and estrangement.
The wussification of men continues.
Massachusetts needs all of Massachusetts citizens to get mandatory mental health counseling.
For the rats it'll be to find out WHY they keep putting such losers as Kennedy and Kerry back into office, time and time again.
For Republicans the counseling will be for handling living with these morons.
I would tell the state of Massachusetts to kiss my a$$.
I think the troops should agree, but only if they get to run psychological profiles of the Mass. state legislature first.
What about the "lifeguard"?
Why does he get an exemption???
they need mental screening of the democRatic voters in MA.
They federal elected officials have committed more violent illegal acts than our returning troops..
Socialists want everything either mandatory or outlawed. With a jackboot on your throat making sure you follow orders
All the liberals in Massachusetts need a dumb ass vacine!
This sounds like a very good idea. PTSD can have very serious consequences, but I hear that many soldiers feel that admitting to it is an admission of weakness. Making it mandatory will take away any stigma. Spotting problems early on will reduce health costs later on - assuming counselling is done competently, of course.
I don't think mandatory treatment would pass Constitutional muster. There's no risk of contagion -- no clear public health risk, and no crime. My bet is any Judge but the most radical nutcase would throw this out. Of course, as we know from the homosexual marriage demand of Mass. Judiciary -- that state is overrun with such radical nutcases. Still -- the Federal courts would toss this crap, I'd hope.
Are you on the right forum? Do you understand what the terms "Liberty", "inalienable individual rights", and "nanny-state" mean? On this forum they are NOT trumped by things that, well, "feel like such a very good idea".

There's this itty witty little matter of confidentiality I'd like to mention, plus the question of who would be carrying out the screening. Would YOU like to be a returning veteran placed in the hands of the same sort of liberal therapy wackos who find repressed former life traumas, etc. all too eager to diagnose you as effed up by the war? How would you like that sort of diagnoses following you around?
Better to let the military take care of it's own.
Massachusetts should require counseling for those who continue to vote for Teddy and Kerry.
Let him be... I bet he's a wealth of knowledge!
Beat me to it.
I had this bumper sticker after 9-11 for a while....New York I'll fight for, but Massachusetts and California are on their own.
