Weekend Edition Sunday, February 19, 2006 · Poland's new conservative government intends to clean up corruption and re-instill moral values in Polish society. The cultural shift is already causing waves in the European Union.
Warsaw. Ruling Conservatives in Poland reached an agreement to form a coalition with Populist formation Samoobrona and ultra catholic extreme-rightist party League of Polish Families (LPF), French newspaper Le Figaro reads today.
The agreement eliminates the risk of new parliamentary elections only four months after the last vote.
Government of Conservative Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz was in a very difficult situation because there was no parliamentary majority formed
The coalition will help strengthen Polish position in view of the other countries, Conservative Party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski stated. The protection of our national interests will be on everydays agenda and our partners must know this.
This remark comes at a point when the disagreements between Poland and EU have deepened. On Monday the country used its right to veto in EU to stop changes in VAT, the newspaper notes.

The EU apparently doesn't allow democratic decisionmaking in democracies, at least it the result is conservative.

God will bless Poland for this move, and my hat is off to them.

Nope, no bias there!
The might have just as well written, "the running dogs of Papal imperialism," just so Poles could wax nostalgic over the good old days of the Rzeczpospolita Ludowa.

At least there is still hope for it, with more toward-right government of Eastern Europe joins. This should push the organization toward the right or at least to the center, that will force West European countries to compromise on certain issues, with less friction with US interests.
