Big-city mayors to meet at Bloomberg's gun summit

NEW YORK - Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg will host a summit next week for about a dozen of their colleagues to discuss gun violence, a problem that has long frustrated big-city mayors.

Mayors from Dallas, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Washington, D.C., and Seattle are among those scheduled to attend the meeting at Gracie Mansion, the historic Upper East Side house where Bloomberg holds official events.

Bloomberg, a Republican, has zeroed in on gun control as a priority for his second term, which began four months ago. Crime statistics show the number of shootings this year is slightly lower than last year, but high-profile gun deaths - like that of a toddler killed by a stray bullet on Easter Sunday - continue to hold a spotlight on the issue.

"...but high-profile gun deaths - like that of a toddler killed by a stray bullet on Easter Sunday - continue to hold a spotlight on the issue."

Same old, same old. Take a "tear-jerker" but statistically anomalous incident, blow it all over the media, and grossly out of proportion, and then use it to justify grabbing innocent citizens firearms.

Don't hold this lightly, this is an important strategy session by the lefties to attempt to coordinate a media campaign and legislative efforts to control gun sales in other states by claiming that "out of state guns" are causing the violence in their communities.

(I thought it was the criminals that caused the violence, but to a liberal the word "criminal" means: "voter".)

TRANSLATION: The 12 mayors will meet to come up with a unified theory of extorting mone from gun makers ala tobacco suits.

With regards to Bloomberg, we need to have an entrance exam into the party to prevent such democrat opportunists.

The second two words in the last paragraph that refer to the first word, are nothing but a lie. If I was the RNC chairman, the mayor and the newspaper would be getting phone calls from the RNC lawyer threatening a law suit if they don't retract the statement.

How is Bloomberg protected? By armed officers and security guards?

Why can't I afford the same protection to myself and my family?

Every damn study has shown that increased gun ownership DECREASES violence in that community.

Bloomberg is a pompous ass, just like King Daley in Chicago and that idiot savant in Boston.

While they have this summit there will be men posted at the door WITH GUNS to keep these jackasses safe.

Hey you liberal slime buckets, give up your security details and then we'll talk about my guns.

If anyone reads the article, this is only about the fear they will not be able to file law suits.

NEUTERING THESE MAYORS' LAWSUITS IS TORT REFORM.

Anywhere but NY, this would be the beginning of the end of his political career.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Yeah, that's much more to the point.

It's a mystery to me how so many people in America can buy into the lie that they do not have the right to defend their lives on an even playing field . . . which is another way of saying they don't believe they have a right to life and have become content to live no freer than cattle -- and then only at the pleasure of the state or some thug.

Rise up ye whimps! Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness is totally dependent on the Right to Life!

We had a lib Governor (Ann Richards who should have been running a truck stop) before George Bush, and Ann vetoed the Concealed Gun Permit legislation.

GWB signed the CP legislation into law in Texas.

Today in Texas we have about 230,000 Concealed Gun Permits, but meanwhile the libs including the lib Mayor of Dallas can go pound sand.

Interesting. Cities with the toughest gun laws are plagued by gun violence. They continue to overlook the obvious.
