Mnay years ago, as a contractor, I worked on a hanger at Travis AFB used for these things......... Talk about huge. These things are awsome.
I live under the flight path to Travis. I call my wife, who's at home, and occasionally you can hear the whine of a C-5 going over; it drowns out my wife's voice on the phone. I love it (the sound of the C-5, not it drowning out my wife's voice).
Do you remember the hangar number? I will bet it was either Building 810 or 818.
At the Depot maint. complex at Kelly AFB, TX, several years ago, I saw a B-52 parked next to a C-5. The B-52 was dwarfed by the C-5. I know what you mean...
My brother was stationed at Travis in the late 80's. I got to climb up in the cockpit, two sets of ladders and all. I got to see the living quarters behind the cockpit and then the passenger area up behind the cargo bay. Wasn't the C-17 supposed to be even larger? Whatever happened to that?
My son is on them at Travis now.
Probably in the same hanger. 8<)
