Thousands of illustrated pages containing bomb-building instructions, in-depth rules on how to encode information and extensive details on organizing terrorist cells were suddenly available -- in Arabic -- for anyone who knew what to look for. Indeed, as al-Qaida's fighters made their way around the world, their instruction manuals followed suit.

By making its manuals accessible and relinquishing control over who was reading and acting on the basis of its materials, al-Qaida gave the green light to sympathizers who wanted to become active on their own. In doing so, al-Qaida transformed itself from a clandestine organization of caders into an interactive, and in part virtual, participatory network.

According to Der Spiegel, al-Qaeda has been modifying the online "Encyclopedia of Jihad" into a "Wikipedia of Jihad" -- using more of a do-it-yourself model than a top-down organization chart.

The big thing that we're going to need to worry about over the next few years is "infiltration".

A jihadi can eat all the pork chops you want to give him. Someone who dies in Jihad is assured passage to Muslim heaven without regard to any sins or behavior. In fact, dying in Jihad is the ONLY assured way to the 72 virgins

There is a group/sect/whatever in Islam, Takfir wal-Hijra. Zawahiri (al-Q's 2nd-in-command) is a member, along with Atta (the leader of the 9/11 attacks). "Takfir wal-Hijra" is variously defined as "Excommunication and Exodus" or "Anathema and Exile". It really translates better as "undercover infiltration".

It's doctrine is that Muslims engaging in Jihad are exempt from all rules, can drink, go to strip bars, anything they want, in order to blend in and not appear to be Muslims. A Takfiri is allowed to do whatever he wants to convince those around him that he's a non-Muslim, or that he's "become secular" and has no interest in Islam

A recent terrorist trial, and conviction, of an Islamic terrorists in New York City brought out the extent to which police have infiltrated Moslem communities in order to uncover terrorist plots. While most of this counter-terrorist activity within Moslem communities is kept secret, enough information has leaked out to make it clear that it's no accident that the United States has not suffered another terrorist attack since September 11, 2001.

There is an extensive informant network within Moslem communities all over the United States. The FBI was pleasantly surprised right after September 11, 2001, by the number of calls they got from American Moslems, reporting suspicious events in their communities, or volunteering to keep an eye on things.......
