I know the pro-life folks who peacefully protested every day the Montgomery, Alabama clinic was open for slaughter. There is no doubt in my mind that their prayers and the prayers of the Christian community lead to the license revocation.

I sadly drive by that clinic every day on the way to work and offer a prayer each time for those women who are in desperate straits and feel that they have no other option when, in fact, there are many families willing to adopt.

My wife and I were on an adoption list for over three years until we were blessed with our little girl. We later learned that her mother wanted to abort her but lacked the money for the abortion. I just can't thank God for saving our daughter's life.

In 2002, 1.29 million surgical abortions were reported, down from an estimated 1.36 million in 1996. There are no abortion reports in California, and I think some other states, so actual numbers are much higher. From 1973 to 2005 more than 46 million “legal” surgical abortions were committed in the US alone.

Reasons for abortion: On average, women give at least three reasons: 3/4 say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities; about 2/3 say they cannot afford a child; and 1/2 say they do not want to be a single parent or are having relationship problems. About 1% of all abortions are due to rape, incest, or life threatening complications to the mother combined.

Induced Abortion: The Number One Cause of Death In The United States. According to the US Center for Disease Control the leading causes of death in the US in 2002 were: Abortion 1,290,000 Heart disease 710,760 Cancer 553,091 Stroke 167,661 Chronic lower respiratory tract disease 122,009 Accidents 97,900. AIDS was not even in the top 10 causes with 17,544 reported deaths.

If induced abortions were reduced by 50% the savings of lives would be greater than finding a cure for all cancer. Approximately 1 of every 4 pregnancies in the US is ended by surgical abortion.

It is unconscionable that the health department has not given abortion clinics in Alabama the scrutiny of a fast-food restaurant. When clinics like RHS are finally inspected, it is not surprising that they fail to achieve even the minimum standard of care.

Even veterinary clinics get more scrutiny than abortion clinics.
