PETA MISTAKENLY TARGETS CHURCH'S NATIVITY SCENE
MSNBC News ^ | 25 November 2006

Posted on 11/26/2006 5:16:54 AM PST by MeneMeneTekelUpharsin

The pastor at Anchorage First Free Methodist Church was mystified. Why was the activist group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals chastising him? No animals are harmed in the church's holiday nativity display. In fact, animals aren't used at all. People, however, do dress the parts — Mary, Joseph, the wise men, etc. The volunteers stand shivering at a manger on the church lawn in a silent tribute to Christmas.

Satan is alive and well. I'm living for the day that organizations like (PETA) that are banned and if they show up anywhere they end up in prison.

More free publicity for PETA.

True. The organization should not be allowed to exist.

"No one's come by protesting or thrown bloodstained fur at us or anything," Armstrong said. "We even use a plastic baby."

PETA must be falling on hard times. They are reduced to mailing out threatening spam to everyone advertising 'living nativity scenes'.

Those animals are subject to all sorts of terrible fates in some cases," Vergerio said. "Animals have been stolen and slaughtered, they've been raped, they've escaped from the nativity scenes and have been struck by cars and killed. Just really unfathomable things have happened to them.

Sounds like PETA has plans.

Excellent, a PETA thread. Time to harvest a lamb for the barbie. Thanks for reminding me.

Sounds like John Kerry wrote the letter.

No, unfathomable things are watching people burned alive, being beheaded, blown up to bits by an IED.

No animal should be mistreated or abused, but at least ten squirrels a week are hit by cars in my neighborhood, never once did I think it was unfathomable the car was faster than said squirrel.

Nor do I consider an animal being slaughtered unfathomable. After all I can't eat a nice T-Bone still attached to the cow, can I now?

Wow, I say, wow.

Every time anyone ever sees or talks to a PETA member the only conversation should be, "Keep thinking, Butch, that's what you're good at."

Some people just don't like the idea of celebrating Jesus' birthday.

Well, although Jesus wasn't born at that time in December (shepherds wouldn't have been out on the hills with their sheep), you may have a point. Most of it is anti-Christ.

I thought they said this was a Methodist church, not a mosque...

...they've escaped from the nativity scenes and have been struck by cars and killed.

As far as them being hit by cars,
1. I'm not wreaking my $20,000 car ducking a 28 cent animal, and
2. I don't drive in their fields, they don't run on my roads...

Here's the most chilling portion of the article (to my mind):

Jackie Vergerio, PETA's captive animals in entertainment specialist, said her organization tracks churches nationwide that use real animals in "living nativity scenes."

So now, liberals have an excuse to shut down nativity scenes on church/private land too.

Who cares about babies? Animals are the issue, the only issue.

I tell them I'm a member of PETA also: People Eating Tasty Animals...

If they give you some more BS, counter with "If Man wasn't meant to eat animals, then why were they made out of meat?"

Blows what little mind they have left....

No, but December is when we celebrate His birth and Nativity scenes are part of that celebration.
