In Massachusetts, Change Bodes Well for Fight Against Illegal Guns

BOSTON, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Deval Patrick was sworn in as the new Governor of Massachusetts today, after winning the election in a campaign that stressed the need to fight the flow of guns to criminals.

"We want to congratulate Governor Patrick and his family, and also congratulate the people of Massachusetts for having made such a great choice on Election Day," said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. "We are very excited about the efforts we expect Governor Patrick's new administration to make in the fight against illegal guns, and we pledge our commitment to help in that fight."

The Brady Campaign in March of last year announced an extended, long-term focus on efforts to curb the flow of guns from the legal market to the illegal market. Along with the Massachusetts Against Trafficking Handguns (MATH) Coalition, the organization has worked with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino to build support for legislative and policy changes that would make it tougher for criminals to arm themselves.

The MATH Coalition, with support from the Brady Campaign, will work with Massachusetts lawmakers to pass legislation to help in the fight against illegal gun trafficking by stopping large volume sales of handguns by limiting purchases to one per month. It is possible in Massachusetts for "straw purchasers" and traffickers to buy unlimited numbers of guns to sell to the illegal market.

"Limiting the number of handguns someone can buy at one time stops gun traffickers in their tracks," said Nancy Robinson of the MATH Coalition and President of the Boston Million Mom March Chapter. "A person who buys 30 handguns at a time is not buying them for hunting, but for resale to criminals on the streets."

Governor Patrick voiced support for this legislative proposal during his campaign.

As the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign, working with its dedicated network of Million Mom March Chapters, is devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities.

Not necessarily. They either mind read or presume.

The Second Amendment does not provide for the amount of Arms a person can buy.

When Deval Patrick headed up HUD, he was a racist tyrant.

Great! Under The Devaluator there will never be another murder in the state again. Not in Boston...not in Chelsea.. not in Lowell...not in Lawrence...not in New Bedord...not in Holyoke.

So,I guess I shouldn't be too worried by the exodus of productive citizens that will occur under his reign or the resulting collapse of the value of my house that that exodus will bring about.

I'm sure that The Devaluator took into account the state of Teddy's liver before he announced his candidacy.

"Hunting" is not the reason for the 2nd Amendment anyway.

(Unless of course he was referring to hunting tyrants.)

Straw purchases are already illegal at the federal level. Gonna make 'em *more* illegal? Yea, that will deter the criminals. Sure it will.

Multiple handgun purchases are already reported to the BATFE.

Usual Soros funded blather from the Brady Bunch.

"A person who buys 30 handguns at a time is not buying them for hunting,

A person who buys a single handgun at a time is unlikely to be buying it for hunting. Oh there are a few handgun hunters, but in general handguns are for target shooting and/or self defense.

"A person who buys 30 handguns at a time is not buying them for hunting, but for resale to criminals on the streets."

The purchase of more than one handgun by a non-licensee from any dealer in the country within a twenty-four hour period generates a notice of multible handgun purchase form that is sent to both the BATFE and the local LEO were the dealer is located.

Dosn't matter who sits in the corner office. If some goober wants to buy a gun illegally, nothings going to stop him.

We fixing up our house to sell and get out of here. We'd already made the decision long before Deval Patrick was elected. SirKit had thought about hurrying to get a gun license before Patrick took office, but I reminded him that it will be a LOT easier in MS, where we're moving, than in MA.

Or just waiting for the next American Revolution! Funny how we lose perspective or are afraid to say that an armed population was and is intended for self defense against the possible tyranny of Government and not just for your next meal or recreation. An armed citizen militia is the only way people can remain truly free. But without morality it can morph into organized crime, gangs and any other other excuse the Government wants to use to take your freedom away.

Been there, done that

Moved South, too, I see!

We're going back home. We moved away for SirKit's grad school, then jobs, thirty years ago. We've been missing it more the last couple of years, and when he decided he'd had enough of corporate life, and we could go anywhere, he thought of MS. Surprised me, but very pleasantly.

Our families keep asking when we're gonna get there, but we have a lot of work to do on the house. The market here is at a standstill, and we want our house to be one that, when folks walk out the door after having seen it, they'll be saying " We have to buy that house!"

That means they will take this opportunity to get out the broad brush and take the right of firearms ownership away from everyone.
As if there were any rights for gun owners left in this cesspool of Liberals.
The criminals will still be able to get a firearms with ease.

Good for you. Get what you can while the housing market is still warm up here. And don't look back. I envy you.
