Giuliani Makes San Diego Campaign Stop (Conservative Bill Simon joins him)
NBC San Diego ^ | March 6, 2007 | NBC San Diego

Former New York mayor and GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani arrived in San Diego Tuesday and was soon shaking the hands of potential voters and raising funds for his fledgling campaign.

Conservative Republican Bill Simon joined Giuliani for a lunch of red Manhattan clam chowder at Point Loma Seafoods, a popular seafood hangout in the Point Loma. A crowd of supporters pressed in close to snap camera-phone shots and get Giuliani's signature on everything from ball caps to old newsweeklies with his face on the cover.

Can anyone question Bill Simon's conservative credentials? Note that he is supporting Rudy.

Rudy will win CA, FL, and if they move up NY too on FEB 5 in 08. I think SC will not really matter.

Bill is supporting him because he is his FRIEND, not based on ideology.

But since you for one have been one of the fiercest critics of Bill Simon going back to late 2001, you have no credibility citing him for anything. So how about you STFU?

California Republicans are NOT liberal. It's been ages since a liberal Rep won a contested statewide GOP primary in California. More than anything California will likely break it wide open for whoever the GOP conservative front runner is at the time -- hopefully Hunter.

There you go spreading falsehoods again.

My main objection to Bill Simon was that he was unelectable and unfortunately I was proven right, Gray Davis beat him.

You assertion was that he was unelectable because he was "too conservative." He lost because the Davis smear machine spent $80 million characterizing him as a crooked business man. The exit polls all showed that as a deciding factor among undecideds. His conservative views never played into it.

He came within 5 points of winning in a very low turnout election. That margin by definition means that he was indeed electable.

You can flip it around and say since he could not beat an unpopular Governor in a low turn out where the angery and fire to go vote would be on the anti Governor vote makes him unelectable.

Maybe, Texas and Florida are very much up in the air, SC is our firewall, whoever wins there (or runs really strongly) gets to mop up all of the media buzz going into Feb 5.

And it is still abut a year away, let's see how well Rudy can take a punch. (politically metaphorically speaking)

Not at all. Blue states COMBINED with Red states will get a win. That's called a landslide.

If he is supporting Rudy, then there is no need to even ask. I wonder what shade of lipstick he will wear when he makes his first gay parade in San Francisco, with Rudy?

You're no conservative. You're an embarrassment to Free Republic.

First you were an Arnoldbot, ranting about Schwarzy being the only candidate who could win. Now you're a Rudybot, ranting that only Giuliani can win.

You degraded FReepers who didn't vote for Arnold.

Now you degrade FReepers who won't vote for Rudy.

Meanwhile, it is YOU who have betrayed conservatism, by supporting, promoting and voting for LIBERALS! You have no shame.

You're a pathetic, RINO lover.

The country is not in the mood for either of the extremes - for the far left or the far right.

You are the one advocating defeat of Republicans and victory for Democrats.

Look in the mirror -- recognize yourself? You may not, but others will recognize you in this:

"But the pretend-conservative act is being carried onto a whole new playing field, one that has become wildly influential over the past few years and one that does not stand to be instantly recognized as a fake. That playing field is the blogosphere, which is then used in conjunction with massive e-mailings to “spread the word” (as one e-mailer insisted I do to my readers/e-mail list) to other conservatives.

The concept is the same: the blog or e-mail claims, first, that the said writer has been a conservative for years and that they have “had it with Republicans.” They then point to an issue that conservatives would likely be upset about such as excessive spending, immigration, or the expansion of government. Their supposed rage over the issue has convinced them to either not show up to vote in 2006, or, in order to really show Republicans, vote for the Democrat instead. "
