Chapel Hill Presidential hopeful John Edwards canceled an appearance in Iowa on Tuesday evening to be with his wife.
According to a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Elizabeth Edwards was expected to have a "follow-up medical appointment" Wednesday to a routine test she had on Monday.
"She's had similar follow-ups in the past, and they've all resulted in a clean bill of health, but Sen. Edwards has gone with her to these appointments, and he wanted to be with her tomorrow, too, the statement said.
Calls Tuesday evening to Edwards' campaign headquarters in Chapel Hill were not immediately returned.
Edwards, who was in Iowa Tuesday on the latest stop of his 2008 presidential campaign, was scheduled to host a house party in Indianola.

Prayers for Elizabeth Edwards' health.
Why take the words of a lawyer at face value? Look for some ulterior motivation, and you will not be far off.
He's probably looking to sue her doctor.
Not an Edwards fan but I wish him and his family no ill and hope she is allright. Cancer is a horrible thing and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
It's like musical chairs, the last one to examine her before she dies or gets a relapse might as well send a notice of litigation to the malpractice insurance carrier..... hell this guy can talk to the spirit of dead girls, can you imagine what he could do with his wife's ghost...
I'm not an Edwards fan either. In fact, I've said some downright nasty things about him virtually everytime I hear his name. Nevertheless, I shall pray for the health of his wife and for peace/comfort to be brought to the Edwards family.
As a survivor of the big "C", I find your comments disgusting. The moderator should pull them and jerk your ticket for a few days.
So what? Once I had a melanoma myself - and I learned to laugh at it.
I hope that everything is alright with Mrs. Edwards...
But, I read last night that another debate that Fox has had scheduled with the Congressional Black Caucus as a co-sponsor is probably going to be cancelled.
It seems that the Moveon.orggies have petitioned and threatened the CBC if they associate with Fox News..just like they did in Nevada.
Sooooooo...it seems someone doesn't want ole Johnny Edwards or Hillbilly, or Osama Obama to have to answer any hard questions...
I certainly care about Mrs. Edwards' health, and wish her well.
However let's parse this statement. According to this article, it appears that both the dr. appointment and the campaign appearance were scheduled in advance. And in fact, it was a "routine" appointment with the doctor.
So, IMO, this is nothing more than posturing. "I cancelled! (a long-planned event) "to go to" (another long-planned event).
He's a phony. IMO.
I wonder if Hillary Clinton would cancel a fund raiser to be with her wife -- Janet Reno?
Sorry, this is a revist from Monday.
It's all the rage on FR lately. I don't get it.
While I certainly don't have any common ground with John Edwards, it's always proper to give credit where it is due and applaud someone for doing the right thing. As opposed to, say, divorcing one's wife on TV and skipping your son's graduation.
With all due respect, I think (pls correct me if I'm wrong), that GSlob was commenting on the timing, etc., of this announcement, not on the substance. I agree with him... I, too, am a bit cynical about this--it seems like a ploy for pity.
And my mom died of cancer, so I don't think the subject is funny in the least.
Or serving her with divorce papers while she's recovering from cancer?
Or cheating on her?
Or having a child out of wedlock with another woman?
Stuff like that?

Thank you, Howlin... :)
I am really tired. I've been diagnosed with high blood pressure so I've been working out so much (I want to prove my DR wrong and get off the meds), plus there was this very long meeting tonight that I had to cover as a reporter for the local weekly, where I work. :)
Okay, I've totally lost my train of thought... Sorry that there's no connection to John Edwards here. LOL !
'Night all. :)
