The merry crack-up of Bill Clinton
Washington Times ^ | 29 may 07 | Wes Pruden

Crack-ups have been good to Emmett Tyrrell, who has written best-sellers about both "the liberal crack-up" and "the conservative crack-up." Now we see Bill Clinton cracking up in the luxurious retirement he despises. The beds are soft, but they aren't in the White House. The limousine is big and black, but it has to stop for stoplights. Despite the boodle and swag the 42nd president has collected from colleges, American industrialists, Arab sheiks, high-minded divines without congregations, mindless Hollywood glitterati and even British orphans willing to listen to his

The thought of 8 more years of these two will have me voting for Mickey Mouse first. I don’t care who is running against Hillary; he/she has my vote!

“Born without a libido, Clinton would have presided over a much different presidency. To be sure, it would have had an abundance of lesser scandals, for Clinton’s fundamental problem is low character, not high testosterone.”

“For all his emotional abuse of his wife, however, Bubba has given her something more useful to a candidate than string bikinis, the sympathetic role of deceived wife. We paid a lot for it.”

I really wonder whether that angle will play as well this time. Sequels rarely do as well as the originals and most women are not as sympathetic to someone who continues to hang with the abuser after the abuse is clear and the options are open to the woman. I think it should be seen as a major weakness since it implies she as president might be willing to hang with America’s abusers if she has something personal to gain from it.

"Friends of Bill often chide Bubba's critics of being obsessed with the scandals of the Clinton years. But what else was there? If historians won't be kind, maybe the Guinness Book of Records will."

Lots of great lines from a funny editorial. Should be a great book!

Frankly, I am sick of both Clintons and their obsession with being the center of attention. They are the living caricatures of narcissistic baby boomers.

They both need to retire and fade from the public view. Go live in a commune or something...even the Democrat party (which I despise) would be a better organization without the constant influence of the two Clintons overshadowing the entire enterprise.

Of course, by now the whole body of the Democrats has been imbued with their virus of corruption. It'll take a generation or two for it to be gone--if indeed it will ever be flushed away.

Another weakness — that while she is President (oh please Lord no) he is out philandering.

The Amazon Reviews and comments for this book are fun. Attentive readers will notice that I have added one reply to a comment myself.

"Clinton’s fundamental problem is low character"

I recall in 1992 a co-worker, when presented with the quote from an Arkansaw fellow who knew BJ well that, "He'd rather climb a tree and tell a lie, than stand on the ground and speak the truth" replied, "Oh, what does character matter anyway?"

Well, we found out, didn't we? "Character" isn't everything but it is near the top of the list of critically important leader attributes. We need to recognize this going into 2008 -- some sixteen years after BJ's election -- and remember it while we consider a nominee(s).

Rudy Giuliani vs. Hilliary Clinton? = Neither, thank you.

Clinton did not abuse his wife by his encounters with other women. Quite the opposite. The last thing Hillary wanted from Bill was a stable sexual relationship. She didnt want to be bothered with his sexual perversions. I doubt he ever stuck a cigar in her or masturbated in a sink for her amusement. As long as she didnt have to perform any of his strange sexual rituals or have him orally I am sure she was more than happy. After all she had other men in her life such as Vince Foster and Web Hubbell and probably more than a few women.

And an excellent reply it was. I noticed that the comment you were responding to was by someone who has “KillW” in his moniker—I wonder if the Secret Service should keep an eye on him.

Imagine the repercussions if he hit on the Jordanian queen as the spouses were hanging out together while the leaders were conferring.

I can’t conjecture as to Hillary’s private bedroom behavior, nor did I agree that Bill abused her. I was just predicting that the “wronged woman” act probably won’t fly this time around.

Has Hillary thought about how good a candidate would look from behind a greiving widow’s weeds???? We know that her handlers are working overtime to make her President of the United States and keep her there....two birds with one stone comes to mind.

Sounds good, but let's not forget how the National Organization of (political) Whores supported Slick Willy when he was obviously guilty of violating one of their dearest laws, sexual harrassment. Anything he did to them was ok, because he was on the "right" side of the abortion issue.

They'll find a spin that will make it ok for Slick Hilly to "Stand By Her Man."

How’s THIS for a nauseating thought:

“But he took time to learn how to cultivate intimate friendships as mortal men do, sending (yellow) roses, perfume and embroidered towels to dear friends, and, on Rio’s Ipanema Beach, purchasing three string bikinis for other figures that caught his eye (”none of which has been seen on Hillary”).”

It ought to be against the law to use the phrases “Hillary Clinton” and “string bikinis” in the same sentence. YECCCHHHH!
