ACTIVISM REPORT – first Central Oklahoma Ron Paul Meet-Up: Fire Mountain, June 16, 2007

Oklahomans for Ron Paul

"Bring our troops home, save our economy, restore the constitution, abolish illegal taxation, secure our borders, and save the United States of America. Get involved and give it all you got!" -- Sid Burgess -- Combat Medic in Iraq, Tulsa Meetup Group Leader

The first Central Oklahoma Meet-Up of Oklahomans for Ron Paul was conducted yesterday at Fire Mountain in Oklahoma City, between 2:00 and 4:00 PM. Attendance was in-line with initial expectations; about 40 Ron Paul supporters from Central Oklahoma and outlying areas were able to attend. Unfortunately, Sid Burgess and many of his "Tulsa Troops" were unable to attend, but were able to send material and technical support.

After everyone in attendance feasted to satisfaction upon the free buffet provided, our Lead Organizer, John Cothern, opened the formal proceedings with a Prayer of Thanksgiving and Supplication: Thanksgiving to God for the liberties upon which He had founded our great nation, and Supplications that our efforts, however small, might be used by God to help turn back the tide of Government encroachments upon those liberties. A hearty "Amen" was sounded by most; the Atheists in attendance were respectful and didn't seem to mind.

Following completion of the Opening Prayer, we moved to the formal business of the Meet-Up.

Due to the damages which Senators John McCain and Fred Thompson have wrought upon First Amendment free speech rights with their passage of the odious McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act, it was determined that the scope of our intended activities would necessitate the incorporation of a formal Political Action Committee in order to comply with all current Federal Election Laws. Arguments and discussion were heard from all concerned, and upon general assent the decision was made to formally incorporate as a PAC. Three Officers were then elected: John Cothern was elected President and Chief Coordinator, another Member was elected Treasurer, and "OrthodoxPresbyterian" was elected General Secretary of Oklahomans for Ron Paul PAC.

Following the election of officers, Secretary OP presented those in attendance with a program of action including a schedule for future meet-ups, membership goals, and activism goals. After discussion and upon general assent, the following program was adopted:

Following discussion and assent to OP's program of action, further items were discussed including the purchase of radio advertisements and GOP Registered Voter lists. These ideas were well-received, and tabled for future action.

In the case of specifically targeting GOP Registered Voter lists, an informal "show of hands" poll was taken as to how many of those in attendance had never been Registered Republicans until Ron Paul announced his candidacy. As approximately 30-40% of those in attendance indicated that Ron Paul's candidacy had been solely responsible for their decision to join the Republican Party, it was generally agreed that recruitment of Democrats and Independents should be maintained alongside any direct targeting of current Registered GOP Voters. It was generally agreed that a "Reagan Democrat" strategy of recruiting Democrats and Independents to support Ron Paul could help to "change the demographics" of the GOP Primaries and help deliver victory to Ron Paul.

Additional activism goals for July 4th were discussed and action committees formed. "OrthodoxPresbyterian" was informally selected as the July 4th activism coordinator for Norman, Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma; the July 4th activism program for the greater Oklahoma City area was left undecided at this time pending further arrangements to be concluded over the next two weeks.

Free Copies of Aaron Russo's documentary "From Freedom to Fascism" were dispensed to all, along with copies of Campaign literature and business cards provided by the Ron Paul National Campaign.

The Meet-Up for July was scheduled by discussion and general assent, and the Meet-Up was then adjourned.

Ron Paul MeetUp groups, with 11,924 members in 279 cities, are the biggest in the Republican field.

"I got to know President Reagan in 1976 when, as a freshman congressman, I was one of only four members of that body to endorse then-Governor Reagan’s primary challenge to President Gerald Ford. I had the privilege of serving as the leader of President Reagan’s Texas delegation at the Republican convention of 1976, where Ronald Reagan almost defeated an incumbent president for his party’s nomination. I was one of the millions attracted to Ronald Reagan by his strong support for limited government and the free-market. I felt affinity for a politician who based his conservative philosophy on '...a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom.' I wish more of today’s conservative leaders based their philosophy on a desire for less government and more freedom." – Ron Paul, Remembering Ronald Reagan

In 2008, I'm voting for the REAGAN REPUBLICAN.
I'm voting for former Vietnam Combat Flight
Surgeon, and Leader of Ronald Reagan's
Electoral Delegation from Texas: In 2008,
I'm Voting for RON PAUL!
"The greatest champion of conservative principles we have seen in Congress in the past quarter century."

Ron Paul is an embarrassment and only serves as a tool for boosting up Rudy Giuliani. Enough with the circus candidates.

That's ridiculous.

Ron Paul and Rudy Giuliani are utterly opposed... on just about any issue you can name.

It can hardly "boost" Giuliani for his mortal enemies to get organized and active.

Isolationism is neither a Reagan, nor a Conservative, value.

We're not Isolationists. We favor Trade and Friendship with All; but Entangling Alliances, Foreign Interventionism, and Nation-Building with None.

"Perhaps we didn't appreciate fully enough the depth of the hatred and the complexity of the problems that made the Middle East such a jungle. Perhaps the idea of a suicide car bomber committing mass murder to gain instant entry to Paradise was so foreign to our own values and consciousness that it did not create in us the concern for the marines' safety that it should have.

In the weeks immediately after the bombing, I believe the last thing that we should do was turn tail and leave. Yet the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics forced us to rethink our policy there. If there would be some rethinking of policy before our men die, we would be a lot better off. If that policy had changed towards more of a neutral position and neutrality, those 241 marines would be alive today." -- Ronald Reagan

Nice thread

When dealing with some of the people here you must realize that they are sucked in to everything Ron Paul is against. They have become part a part of the whole rotten system.

Really funny coming from a guy who would of been an American Firster in 1930. A guy who figures the US should just ignore the rest of the world since they only hate us "cause we are over there".

You say “American Firster” like it’s a bad thing.

Ron Paul doesn't want to "ignore the rest of the world".
He just doesn't want to use the United States Military as a "World Policeman" while our own Borders remain hopelessly undefended.

That seems entirely reasonable, to me.

I know. That's what these Citizen Meet-Ups are for... a modern day "Green Dragon Tavern" end run around the whole rotten system.

Let me know if you'd like to be on the Great Ron Paul Ping List (GRPPL) to be alerted to future threads. Thanks!

Enthusiasm for Paul may have the potential to make him a spoiler, especially, if he goes third party. Anything goes is probably the legacy of all the spin and propaganda we have seen.

Ron Paul is not planning to go Third Party.

Why should he? His fundraising is reported to be up 1000% and his Meet-Up groups are the biggest in the GOP field... and now getting organized for action in the "Real World".

With 10+ candidiates in the race, we don't even have to win a Majority in any of the Primaries. Just the largest Plurality of Votes divided amongst an enormous field.

Between anti-war Republicans and newly-recruited Democrats and Independents, this is actually a do-able strategy for us.

Oh, please. Just because Ron Paul does not see eye-to-eye with the mainstream of the Republican coalition (if such exists anymore) does not make him a "toll for Rudy Giuliani" nor a "circus candidate."

Ron Paul is one thing - he is a strict Constitutionalist. He is too strict for my taste, and I would be uncomfortable voting for him. At the same time, he was the only candidate at the last debate willing to call Rudy Giuliani and Duncan Hunter out for their asinine suggestion of pre-emptive nuclear strikes against Iran.

Ron Paul went up several notches in my book after that debate. I still can't vote for him, but he must be respected.
