I don’t know how much credit or blame I would attach to a company that hops on one of these bandwagons. Cynically, I think companies are in business to make money and they do this for the publicity. The pink ribbon logo is widely recognized and it says “we care.” So if a company wants publicity, they have to pick a well-known organization like Komen, rather than a more worthy but less glamorous group.

From my seat it says, "I'm a liberal and you should care!"

You are correct. Business should operate outside the realm or morality if it provides one more penny to the bottom line, just like our politicians do. (sac)

I can up your cynicism by quite a bit. Any time I hear that “we care” kind of talk, I immediately start looking for a rat. The whole pink ribbon thing just looked wrong, so I am not at all surprised.

Also, and I might be off-base on this, but it seems to me as though a lot of people are making a lot of money off of women’s breast cancer. I’m not talking about the healthcare industry (although I have a beef or two with them, too), but just about “anybody who is anybody” seems to use it for a hook: yogurt companies, clothing manufacturers, movie “stars,” you name it.
