Cheney In Confederate Flag Flap At N.Y. Gun Club
POSTED: 9:12 am EDT October 30, 2007 UPDATED: 9:16 am EDT October 30, 2007 UNION VALE, N.Y. -- Vice President Dick Cheney's eight-hour outing at a secluded Hudson Valley gun club went off without incident -- except for the Confederate flag the media spotted hanging inside a garage.
Cheney's visit Monday to Clove Valley Rod & Gun Club in Dutchess County, about 70 miles north of New York City, was made under tight security that kept reporters and photographers well away from the vice president's hunting party.
But after Cheney's visit, a New York Daily News photographer snapped a picture of a Confederate flag hanging inside a garage on the hunt club property. In the photo published in Tuesday's editions, the flag, about the size of a pillow case, is seen covering the top of the window on a door at the back of the garage.
The New York Post reported the flag hung in the garage attached to the club headquarters.
The Daily News photo was shown to the Rev. Al Sharpton, the civil rights activist, who issued a statement demanding that the vice president "denounce the club, and apologize for going to a club that represents lynching, hate and murder to black people."
Sharpton's statement was issued hours after Cheney departed the club at 3:45 p.m. Monday for a flight out of Stewart Air National Guard Base. In a statement issued Monday evening, Cheney spokeswoman Megan Mitchell said neither Cheney nor anyone on his staff saw such a flag at the hunt club.
It's not clear whether the front door of the garage that contained the flag was even open at the time the vice president was at the club, where well-heeled hunters shoot ducks and pheasants.

If anyone wants to make something of this, doesn’t it seem to be at the feet of New York’s Senators, Schumer and Clinton?

LOL! I can see a photographer running breathlessly with both arms flapping with an 8x10 glossy in both hands running up to Sharpton, "Reverend Al, Reverend Al - - looky, looky!. Al then pats him on the head, "That's a good little boy, now run along while us bigots get as much out of this as we can."
The First Black President made the Sunday before Easter; Confederate Flag Day in Arkansas. The Rev. should demand that Mrs. First Black President denounce him.
I have a Reb flag in my garage and the folks around me could care less.

It’s about time for Cheney to give the Right Reverend Al the salutation he gave to Senator Leahy.

Doubtful. There were no actual battles anywhere near there but it is possible that they might have a ‘living history’ event or two. Anyway, this whole episode is stupid and as such is right in line with Sharpton’ mentality.
My guess is that the flag belongs to a mechanic or maintenance person at the club..........

I’ve got a good-sized Rebel Flag, myself. I just hope Cheney doesn’t apologize. But knowing the Bush administration, there are probably already people wringing their hands and saying, “Gosh, if we don’t denounce the Rebel Flag, our party might lose the votes of Al Sharpton supporters in 2008.”
