Iran hostage crisis, in U.S. history, events following the seizure of the American embassy in Tehran by Iranian students on Nov. 4, 1979. The overthrow of Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlevi of Iran by an Islamic revolutionary government earlier in the year had led to a steady deterioration in Iran-U.S. relations. In response to the exiled shah's admission (Sept., 1979) to the United States for medical treatment, a crowd of about 500 seized the embassy. Of the approximately 90 people inside the embassy, 52 remained in captivity until the end of the crisis.

I remember seeing the report on the CBS Evening News about the Iranians seizing control of the embassy. Many of us still remember the crisis...sadly, most of America has forgotten or weren't around.

If we had had a strong man in the White House, these little PUNKS who took our people hostage would have been dealt with swiftly.

Now, one of those criminals is the Holocaust-denying, Israel-hating, Nuclear-bomb-hunting President of Iran!

Make no mistake, folks: the problems we're having in the Middle East today are, in a big way, due to the feckless milquetoast Jimmy Carter.

LOL...the sad thing is, those people were there for 444 days. Ronald Reagan’s presence in the White House brought them back.

I guess my education is getting pretty antique, old math vs. new math, whatever. Every time I add it up, I come up with 28 years back to Nov 79.

There's a new documentary deifying Jimmah that was reviewed last night on "Ebert & Roeper," and it was so one-sided and leftwing, even the New York Times critic filling in for Ebert gave it thumbs down, saying it was more a promotional piece than a documentary.

They showed a short clip of Jimmah talking from it, and in just 10 seconds or so, he managed to drop my jaw to the floor. He said (quoting from memory here), "I decided that diplomacy was the best option for dealing with the Iranian crisis. Because of that diplomacy, all the hostages were released unharmed, and not one Iranian was killed."

Left out of this staggeringly revisionist recollection were the facts that his "diplomacy" kept our people held hostage for 444 days until it miraculously got them released on the very day of Ronald Reagan's inauguration, plus he did try to use military force to rescue them and botched it into an embarrassing disaster, plus he handed over the oil rich Iran to a bunch of Islamofascist nutjobs who have been responsable for countless deaths since then, no doubt many of them Iranians.

Other than that, he's a genius and a saint. Pass me the barf bag.

Meanwhile, here's a low-person-density collection of Iran pix. Be forewarned: too colorful to believe. They look photoshopped.

I remember it all too well—the opening salvo of WW IV—and the goober-in-Chief did nothing except roll over.

SHAME...AND WE ARE STILL PAYING FOR HIS COWARDICE!

Didn't mean to sound offended- just wasn't real sure when the counting started, but thought that Nov 4 79 was the date in question. :)

"No, but I did forget DST."

Dammit I'm now up way past my bedtime. I knew that I was tired...

Seriously though, the years around the early 1980's were a fog for some of us.

Between alcohol and sundry other drugs I honestly can't remember more than 25 of the past 30 years.

Lousy thing is, it's not always the same 25 years that I remember from day to day.

The IRS has been particularly humorless when I try to explain this...

I hope we all remember what happened in Iran when Carter threw the Shah under the bus for being antidemocratic during his administration, the biggest blunder in foreign policy in history. Now the same hand wringers are jumping on Musharraf in Pakistan as he tries to hold off the Islamofacists.
