Bill Clinton May Get Payout of $20 Million
The Wall Street Journal (excerpt, subscription) ^ | January 21, 2007 | John E. Emshwiller

Posted on 01/21/2008 10:33:00 PM PST by HAL9000

Former President Clinton stands to reap around $20 million -- and will sever a politically sensitive partnership tie to Dubai -- by ending his high-profile business relationship with the investment firm of billionaire friend Ron Burkle.

Mr. Clinton is negotiating to end his relationship with Mr. Burkle's Yucaipa Cos. as part of a broader effort to protect the presidential campaign of his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, from potential conflicts of interest. Details of Mr. Clinton's involvement in Yucaipa and his efforts to unwind it come from documents and interviews with people familiar with the matter.

The former president has had links to Yucaipa since early 2002, when Mr. Burkle -- a longtime friend and political contributor -- offered him a role there. Mr. Clinton's association with the firm began at a time when he was looking to earn large amounts of money, partly to pay heavy legal bills accumulated to defend himself and Mrs. Clinton from several investigations during his presidency.

The Clintons' money situation has improved a lot since the days when Hillary Clinton had to liquidate her blind trust to pay Paula Jones.

“Payoff” is more like it for these two greedy deadbeats. The Clintons are masters of the disguised bribe.

I suggest the Clintons haven’t had to pull money out of their own pockets in decades as a general rule, the Paula Jones case being the one exception.

I doubt they paid for their current home. I doubt Bill or Hillary pull money out of their pockets during the day even once.

They have organizations and people to do that for them.

So what the heck would they need $20 million for?

There is just too much money floating around on both sides of the isle.

Grifters is right. When these two rats & their spawn from Arkansas went into the White House, they didn*t even own any property—came time for a vacation and no summer house, nothing. Looks like they*ve done *rat well* for themsefs.

hey, I don't even remember that name from the list of Clinton last-minute pardons.

When they say Clinton was a black president, perhaps they're actually equating him to Jesse Jackson. :')

Thanks george76.

In all honesty, all former Presidents do pretty well after their presidency. Book deals, speaking engagements, etc.

What real role did Bill Clinton have in this instance if not as an uber-lobbyist? The hypocrisy and selective outrage on the left would be deafening if it weren't for the silence.

The point is the dems are going after CEO pay/perks while the last former Dem President can reap in $20 million for doing essentially nothing but provide status and a gatekeeper for access.

Yes former Prez's of both parties do it - it's just the Dems that are able to have their anti-corporate cake and eat it too.

Guess there wasn't enough room in his suitcase for anymore state secrets to sell later on, after he and Hillary had stuffed it full of silverware.

Dear Hellery, I want to hear more of your thoughts on income inequality. Looks to me like you and Slick Willie might have some wealth to redistribute. Now you won't have to put a freeze on mortgage foreclosures. You and Willie can just start paying off as many as you can with this new windfall.

People should learn to be a bit more curious about someone who is out of office, does no discernable work, performs no service, and has hundreds of millions pouring into his coffers.

For what? Or, perhaps, from what? No one digs too deeply. I always assume, its just me, but I always assume its not new money, its old money being laundered back into daylight.
