The Takeover

The Takeover

The controllers sat in their groups of two’s and three’s, watching the results as they came in. They listened to their media and political operatives, they waited to hear key phrases and words from the many other controllers who would be giving their own subtle congratulation messages as more results came in. Events had gone better than any had hoped for and the elation was both evident and contagious.

The takeover that had been undertaken more than forty years ago, and continued by others as the oldest controllers had died off, had not been an easy one to accomplish. Yet, despite the seeming magnitude and impossibility of the task, victory was finally at hand. Setbacks, like the ‘80’s, were accepted and worked around. The potential problems of the ‘00’s had been handled adeptly by ensuring that strong opponents never arose and through the efforts of entrenched bureaucratic operatives.

Making this victory even sweeter was the fact that the winner had been blissfully ignorant of what he was being molded to do. Down through the years leading the candidate had been as simple as leading a bull by a nose ring. Closed door meetings, legislative wrangling and whispers of glory in eager ears had finally paid off with his victory.

It had been an exciting election process as even their own affiliation had been split as to which of their own party’s candidates they would back. All of that, however, was secondary to the controllers and their takeover plans. Raising their carefully prepared sleepers to the top of the political pile and the takeover had been the overriding concern and the interparty rivalries could be smoothed out over time.

There was no rush in that matter as their own political party had been slowly moved in the desired direction some time ago and was firmly secured. This internal spat was something that could be easily handle and gaining control of the other party, as set down by the original controllers, was everything and tonight was the culmination of those efforts.

The controller’s task had been made easier as their rival political party was split into many factions and the only candidates dangerous to their plans had been demonized and marginalized early on. The controllers didn’t even have to work that hard on this tactic as some of that work was accomplished by the party followers in their own internal bickering. There would be no troubles or setbacks like those of decades past.

The controllers had concluded that their strongest political rivals, some who even realized that they were being undermined in their own party, would cease to be a factor in a matter of a few years. Time continues and no man is immune to death’s eventual arrival and carefully selected candidates to fill vacant controller positions was a never ending process, just like the takeover plans.

The best thing of all for the controllers was that the American people, in general, didn’t even know or recognize what was happening right under their noses and the controllers were content with that. Yes, it was a great day in American history and the winners, the controllers, would write that history.

If Romney backs out or loses, ... I guess I'll vote for a Democrat.

You'll note that I did add humor as a topic. {;^)
I must admit that I'm rather surprised that you even bothered to read or post to this thread.

Richard E. Sprague called such people the “Power Control Group” but I’m not sure what to believe anymore.

Excellent writing, although I wish it weren’t so pertinent.

I trust the ethics of scientist so I tend to believe he attempted to explain observations objectively. Having had the pleasure of growing-up upper poor in New Orleans, I tend to think (as my home page states) that it's difficult for two or more men to closely work together (while totally identifying with each other) and NOT form a mafia over time. I tend to think that's just the way it is. However, it's comforting to have a forum like Free Republic so that we individualized pit bulls can inflict damage, from time-to-time, on the dinosaurs that want to control our lives.

Yes, that's the gist of the article...to leave a dead, desiccated Republican carcass behind.
Good observation.
