U.S. economic slowdown likely to bring Mexican workers north

TEZIUTLAN, Mexico — As the U.S. economy heads south, Mexicans may have to head north.

That's the fear of many workers here, where the slowdown in the United States already has cut production at manufacturing plants whose output is largely sold in the United States.

"If it's bad there, it will be worse here," said Bartolo Juarez, 35, who makes jeans for Levis and Guess at a Teziutlan factory and already has discussed moving to the United States if his job here vanishes. His 12-year-old daughter, Gabriela, has broken down in tears more than once after hearing her parents talk about her father leaving for the States, her mother said.

"It's a sacrifice. I don't want to go, but I know I can get a good-paying job in San Antonio," even in troubled economic times, Juarez said. It's always easier to find work in the United States than in Mexico, he added, and for five times more money.

Economists say that U.S. recessions historically are tougher on Mexico than they are on the United States, and that while U.S. officials say that border security measures, such as building a wall along the Mexican border, have reduced illegal immigration in recent months, they won't hold back the flood of workers that's likely if Mexican factories close.

The majority of the 72,000 people who live in this rainy town tucked up in the cloud forests of the Sierra Norte mountains in central Mexico work in more than 30 factories that specialize in assembling pants for distribution in the United States.

Rodrigo Martinez, the coordinator of the National Job Service in Teziutlan, estimates that 10 percent of the community already has gone to the United States in search of work after losing jobs here or deciding to find better pay there.

Just when I was seeing a glimmer of hope they would all return home because the construction industry has died. I am tired of coping with their cultural differences. I hate Mexican music in any form, but they seem intent on blaring it from their homes, cars, picnic areas and campgrounds. Good thing I can always afford a system to blast them into oblivion.

They have no respect for our country, waiving Mexican, Salvadorian flags. They have no respect for laws of any kind. They pay no taxes, they have an underground economy, indentured servitude, Dog fights, Cock fights, young girls forced into prostitution. They have even captured the government employee. I’m still waiting for that last one, I can point the finger at government employees taking bribes, but I don’t think that will happen because we work for Tony Villar.

They practice medicine without a license. They are general contractors without a license. They serve food without a health license to our local schools. They have used car lots on streets without a license. Licenses don’t mean a thing to them.

They come into our country with diseases that have been gone for generations. Then they put their kids in school. I have heard that an Illegal alien does not need to prove they had all their shots. This puts my kid in danger. This means that if I go out to eat that my family and I are in danger. Some kind of parasite from pork is on the rise because of illegal aliens and how they prepare it. A local radio station had a guy from the health department on a month ago saying that Carna Asadas was in fact dog meat on some of these sidewalk cafes.

Why is it that just Mexican Illegals get in state tuition in California schools and not other illegal aliens? Could it be Tony Villar?

I am not going to even read this article. They are going to come North in good times and in bad times. They are going to come North in the summer and winter. They are going to come North in the spring and fall. Well you get the picture.
Rejoice! One day they WILL stop coming here. There are two thing things that will stop them from coming North. We can either stop them or the quality of life will decline so much here that it will no longer be worth coming here.
I do not know about the rest of you but if I had to put money on it I would bet on the ladder of these.

Dog fights, Cock fights, young girls forced into prostitution. (My emphasis)

You just might have come up with the magic bullet for illegal immigration. It is obvious that Homeland Security and ICE don't have a handle on it, so why not turn to an agency that has their sh*t together, the CPS.

When the CPS got wind of mistreatment of young girls in the LDS community in Texas, they had no trouble rounding up all the families, taking them into custody and removing them from their environment.

I've heard prosecutorial attorneys say that one incident of child abuse is cause to implicate the whole community.

So, what the he!! is the excuse in not contacting the CPS and have them round up the illegals on the same basis and ship their a**es across the border from where they came???

There is going to be rumblin going on between the Mexicans and US citizens. These criminals are starting to become very erogant and pushing their way into places they are not welcome.

I’m as disgusted too by this weirdo Aztec and Mayan invasion. The Spanish rulers of Mexico rule over them ruthlessly. They laugh at how we relive them of their “Indian problem”. And that problem is a fact in Mexico and Central America. But it is their problem! That idiot Americans accept being pushed into the United States of America. Which traditionally was Anglo oriented and wanted nothing to do with the problems of Spanish colonialism

The Indians here have their own gripes and problems and now we are babysitting the Indians of Mexico because the Spanish push them north

Well this is NOT a very compassionate post/thread.... Anything else I want to say probably would be considered offensive... Get ready for a bigger plate passing because it sounds like we Americans are about to get another permanent tax hike in one form or another, no matter who gets elected.

And now their pope is saying we should amnesty them and help them flourish in their new home. Perhaps B-XVI should put his money where his mouth is and import 500,000 of them to the Vatican City.

Then again, other articles tell us that Mexicans are going back to Mexico thanks to the downturn in the American economy.

So, which is it? North? South? Both? /rhetorical

Mexico is building a path down to the 9th circle of hell, and you think that is clever? With people famous for working hard, with oil wealth, and still the country is poor. How clever is that?
