BOSTON If a stay-at-home mom could be compensated in dollars rather than personal satisfaction and unconditional love, she'd rake in a nifty sum of nearly $117,000 a year.
That's according to a pre-Mother's Day study released Thursday by Salary.com, a Waltham, Mass.-based firm that studies workplace compensation.
The eighth annual survey calculated a mom's market value by studying pay levels for 10 job titles with duties that a typical mom performs, ranging from housekeeper and day care center teacher to van driver, psychologist and chief executive officer.
This year, the annual salary for a stay-at-home mom would be $116,805, while a working mom who also juggles an outside job would get $68,405 for her motherly duties.

Nothing as important as Moms.....
except for Dads...
Having a parent rather than an emplyee raise your kids is worth every cent, IMO. If we weren’t so greedy and materialistic, and if taxes weren’t so high, every family could have a stay at home parent...and I think we’d be better off as a nation.
My mom’s worth way more than that.
I’m just waiting for some stay at home Mom coalition to demand that the government pay them $117,000 per year to stay home and rear their own children.
Let’s see, I’m a Landscaper, Electrician, Plumber, Painter, Carpenter, Snow Remover........
Give her a raise! :)

No kidding. My wife is a stay at home mom, and my mom was a stay at home mom until we were in school, and then she took a job as a teacher so she’d have similar hours out of the house as us.
Not too many people actually “need” the second income as you allude to. Some people do, but most don’t.
They made Mom the CEO. They really DO know how families operate don’t they?
Haha, I wonder why there are never studies on Father’s Day as to how much extra a Dad should get compensated for doing household chores, maintaining the car, mowing the lawn, taking care of his children, etc... ;)
As usual, “women and minorities are hardest hit” :)
I am waiting for the gummit to tax all stay at home moms that are married to evil CEOs.
(Should I duck and cover?)
Don’t let the IRS know about this.
I’m worth much more than that. Ask my kids. One just said a million and the other said “A Google Bucks”
But I get paid in hugs and kisses so it all evens out.
Geez I have to get that Grub-Ex on the lawn!
I’m no Mom but this article seems condescending to me. It’s wrong on so many levels.
Except that it would deprive some of us of some of the best people we’ve ever worked with or for. Besides, male secretaries and elementary school teachers would be weird.
Please don’t tell my wife. I can’t afford that much.
I couldn't agree more!
Happy Mother's Day. :)
Don’t tell my wife that I owe her that much...
