The latest Rasmussen Reports poll in Michigan shows Barack Obama attracting 45% of the vote while John McCain earns 42%. This is the fourth poll in Michigan since McCain wrapped up the Republican nomination and all four have found the candidates within three points of each other. In both May and late-March McCain held a statistically insignificant one-point lead.

As long as McCain continues to ignore his base and slap conservatives in the face....he will not win the general election.

Polls now don’t mean much. Michgan voters will remember that Obama didn’t want to let them have a re-vote and will vote accordingly. Michigan will go for McCain.

McCain’s strength in Michigan is one of the most surprising aspects of the campaign. It makes the case for his choosing an urban-based candidate as his running mate.

It’s the bump from Kwame Kilpatrick’s coattails. Sock it to you, Whitey!

Relative to other states, yes there is.

"Michigan has the second-largest Arab community outside the Middle East, after Paris. About 300,000 people of Arab descent live in southeast Michigan, including significant numbers of Iraqi, Lebanese, Yemeni, and Palestinian Americans. Almost two-thirds of the population were born in the United States, and 40 percent of those born outside of the country have moved here since 1980, according to data from the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS) Web site, www.accesscommunity.org, and the Detroit News. Isn’t Michigan currently experiencing a long term one state recession due to dhimmirat policies?

Both candidates have some problems here with the auto industry views. In the end, I think McCain wins here due to the Wilder effect, thanks to the recent scandals involving Kwame Kilpatrick.

That is unless the gas prices destroy any chance of a republican at all here.

Hello Hello. Obama won the long fought nomination last week and Hillary just suspended operations on Sat. Oh course there will be a Dem bump in a blue state. The fact the BUMP is so minor says something about Obama. The Repub base In Mich has left for the south many years ago.

This is good news since a whole bunch of “discovery” of related to Barry’s positions is yet to hit the fan. There’s still a whole bunch more of bloom to come off the rose.

McCain isn’t shooting for the Conservative base, and this result shows no more reason why he should. He is shooting for the mushy middle as his base, and if he succeeds in presenting himself as a moderate who can reach across party lines and still be strong on defense, he wins the election in a walk.

Because of that, I believe he will pick Joe Lieberman as his running mate.

They are both considered “Mavericks”, they both are moderates, Lieberman won’t bring attention to McCain’s age, and Lieberman will bring in Connecticut, Delaware, and Maryland at a minimum.

(Note that I don’t like this, it’s just what I am predicting will happen.)

That said Arab, not Muslim.

Most Arabs here are Lebanese Christians followed by Iraqi Chaldeans. They've been immigrating here since the 1920's. What I get sick and tired of is the ignorance on FR and elsewhere thinking that my state is run by the Muslims and that we're all gonna die. There's some black Muslims in Detroit, and sizable populations in Dearborn (a minority there even) and Hamtramck (mostly Albanian I believe).

My state is 2% Muslim, about the same as the Jewish population. It is overwhelmingly Christian.

McCain is not attracting the conservatives. Obama is an idiot but McCain is EVIL. If any freeper thinks that McCain is going to be better than Obama then they ought to search his history - McCain’s mission is to destroy conservatives. Just wait till you hear him address the current Nazi party called LaRaza - it is disgusting to think that the republican nominee is placating to group more incidious than the KKK.

The one state recession is all Bush's fault. Granholm, with her high taxes and bloated spending and anti business regulatory environment have absolutely nothing to do with it.

As soon as a Democrat is elected President, Michigan's one state recession will turn into an economic boom.

Hello there. Have you been to Detroit lately? Its a huge Muslim population and they took over the entire city of Dearborn.

I live in Southeast Michigan and I've been to Detroit lately. Detroit is mostly protestant and Christian. It's mostly black and has been for over 30 years.

East Dearborn has some Muslims as the Christian Arabs (the majority in Michigan) left the area. West Dearborn is probably mostly white Catholic (Polish, Italian, Irish).
