NEW MANCHESTER - State House of Delegates candidate Pat McGeehan (R-W.Va.) U.S. Senate candidate Jay Wolfe (R-W.Va.) and state delegate Chris Wakim (R-Ohio) participated in a dove shoot at the home of Doc and Peggy Bahnsen on Labor Day.

Thirty-two shooting stations were set up on either side of a corn field. Participants dressed in camouflage and sat on upturned buckets after a safety briefing from Doc.

Peggy provided lunch for the participants and those who came to watch.

There are three basic rules for dove hunting success:

- Allow doves to come within 35 yards before shooting and remain motionless until the dove is within range.

- Shoulder the gun quickly and use one long swinging motion to aim and shoot.

- Always take extra shot shells.

During his safety briefing, Doc made sure to tell the participants that he had extra twelve-gauge shot if anyone needed it.

The most important thing, Doc said, is that people know the politicians are part of the community.

Both sides of McGeehan's family were raised in West Virginia. He moved to the area when he was a teenager and graduated from Oak Glen High School in 1998.

McGeehan attended college at the Air Force Academy. After his education was complete, he worked as an Air Force Intelligence Officer.

He recently led a project in Hancock County to honor local West Virginia veterans. McGeehan lives in Chester.

Wolfe graduated from Parkersburg South High School in 1973 and went on to Glenville University. He worked as a realtor for 30 years next to his wife, Mollie.

In West Virginia, Wolfe has been a part of the building of two motels, owns several rental properties, and operates multiple cell phone stores under Sprint.

Wolfe served four years in the state Senate from 1987 through 1990 and served on the Harrison County and State Republican Executive Committees. He was also the 1988 Republican U.S. Senate nominee against Robert Byrd and the 2002 Republican U.S. Senate nominee against Jay Rockefeller.

Delegate Wakim is a West Point and Harvard graduate and a Gulf War veteran.

He is married to his high school sweetheart, Jeannette, and has two children.

Delegate Wakim owns several real estate and commercial properties in West Virginia. He formerly worked as an investment banker in Chicago.

Al Gore would have been President of the United States if it wasn’t for pro-gun folks in West Virginia. Even though the state’s voter registrations lean heavily Democrat. So, I really don’t get what your point is.

The Second Amendment IS NOT ABOUT DUCK (OR DOVE) HUNTING. Maybe if this guy wasn’t so busy blasting away doves for fun, he’d have time to formulate a good public articulation of why the Second Amendment means what it says and is critically important.

While I fully realize that doves are pigeons and pigeons are doves, wouldn't it be better to advertise a “Pigeon Shoot” so as not to offend ignorant lieberal sensitivities?

Nowhere does he say that the Second Amendment is about hunting. You’re making stuff up.

So, are you supporting the reelection of Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, then? I’m sure he’d never shoot a harmless dove.
