U.S. border police arrest Mexican troops

PHOENIX (Reuters) – U.S. border police arrested seven Mexican soldiers after they accidentally strayed over the international boundary into Arizona, authorities said.

The U.S. Border Patrol said agents encountered the troops in a Humvee a short distance north of the border near Yuma, in far west Arizona, early on Friday.

"The Border Patrol agents on scene established a dialogue with the subjects, who identified themselves as members of the Mexican military," the Border Patrol said in a news release.

"The ... agents informed them of their presence within the United States. Upon notification, the subjects were peaceably taken into custody," it added.

The soldiers, who were assigned to the 23rd Regiment Motorized Cavalry of the Mexican Army, said they had become disoriented while on patrol and had accidentally crossed the international boundary, the Border Patrol said.

After relieving them of their arms, agents took the soldiers to the San Luis, Arizona, port of entry where they were processed and repatriated to Mexico, along with their weapons and vehicle.

The incursion was the second by Mexican troops in recent months.

In August, a group of four Mexican soldiers briefly held a U.S. Border Patrol agent at gunpoint in a remote stretch of the Arizona desert after they mistakenly strayed north across the border.

It’d be a better start if the border was mined.

No better motivation for learning land navigation than an unmarked minefield.

So, if I get caught fishing with a cane pole on mom's property, without a license and picture ID, the state can take my vehicle, my gear, and fine and jail me. But we play catch and release with foreign nationals? And their gear?

I'm done playing their game. It's going to suck to be them.

Were we to build a helpful "demarcation" along our southern border, we'd never have this problem again.

Of course, none of the wimps in DC have to cojones to do this.

When borders aren't marked well and you are driving off road, it's pretty easy to end up on the wrong side. When I was in the Army in Germany me and another guy got lost in the woods in an Army deuce and a half and ended up in Czechoslovakia. This was during the Cold War. We were doing training exercises on the border. A couple of Czech soldiers approached us and told us where we were and pointed out how to get back to Germany. We were just over the line, but I suppose they could have arrested us. It was a little scary to see the AK’s and the commie uniforms. They were actually pretty nice though once they realized we were just a couple of dumb teenaged soldiers who were lost. We were apologizing profusely and I think they thought it was funny. It was a good thing I could speak some German because they didn't speak any English. Anyway, we didn't tell a soul when we found our unit because we'd have been in deep doo doo.

Eff 'em. Eff 'em all. From here on out, I follow reasonable rules and blow off most of the nanny state stuff.

The statists want to make criminals of all men? It worked. I'm going to do as I damn well please. Devil take the hindmost.

I don't need no stinking permit.

I hope these border guards have good lawyers to protect them from government persecution.

Interfering with mexican military personnel while they are in the process of protecting drug smugglers will not be looked upon kindly by the powers that be...

If they had any money they would fine them. You sir have a job, money, and a standing in your community. So they will fine you and take your possessions. They are not called “Field Revenue Collectors” for nothing!
