Jesse Jackson Jr.: I Am Not a Target In Blagojevich Probe
After being identified as Senate Candidate 5 in the complaint filed in Tuesdays arrest of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. held a press conference this afternoon on Capitol Hill, saying he is innocent in Blagojevichs alleged schemes to sell President-elect Barack Obamas Senate seat to the highest bidder.
Know this: I spoke to the U.S. attorneys office on Tuesday and they shared with me that I am not a target of this investigation and I am not accused of any misconduct, Jackson told reporters this afternoon. He did not take any questions, but added that he is scheduled to speak further with federal authorities this week and will cooperate fully and completely with the inquiry.
Jackson hired long-time Chicago lawyer James Montgomery following Blagojevichs arrest. In a statement, Montgomery said his client is not a target of the investigation.
In the complaint, an unnamed emissary of Senate Candidate 5 allegedly said the candidate was willing to raise significant sums for Blagojevichs re-election in exchange for the Senate seat.
Jackson denied the allegation. I never sent a message or an emissary to the governor, he said, stressing that his meeting this week to discuss the Senate seat with the governor was their first meeting in four years.
I thought, mistakenly, that the process was fair, he said.
Echoing Obama, Jackson called on Blagojevich to resign and remove himself from the process of selecting the next senator because anyone he selects would be too severely tainted to serve the state effectively and without suspicion.
Jackson did not address whether he would continue to seek the Senate seat.

Not. Yet.
Well, you’re not a target..yet :)
“He did not take any questions, but added that he is scheduled to speak further with federal authorities this week and will cooperate fully and completely with the inquiry.”
Translation: I am sooooo busted....
“Candidate #5” offers a million bucks for the Senate seat and he’s not a target?
If b*llsh*t were gold, these Chicago Machine crooks would all be billionaires.
“Jackson hired long-time Chicago lawyer James Montgomery following Blagojevichs arrest.”
He hired a harmonica player??? Practice up for his prison gigs??
Could be his hide is already on the wall.
Famous last words.
Any one out there really believe that both Jacksons aren’t dirty?
Come on ya know they both are scum.
What are the chances that Blago rolls over on Jesse Jr. now that Jr. has basically thrown him under the bus?
Paging Mayor Nagin.....MORE BUSSES PLEASE!!!
L
Yea, that's the ticket.
“I’ve never SENT a message or an emmissary”.....”No I spoke to him MYSELF”.
That’s not the JJ Jr. that I knew.
Obama spin is already going... dismissing the Obama/Blago link just like Obama/Ayers and Obama/Rezko. They only knew each other through photo ops and political dinners. Obama really wasn’t a top adviser to Blago and he really has never spoken directly with him in regards to the Senate seat, the Cubs, or any topic other than the weather.
WJC: “I did not have...”
BHO: “I did not meet with...”
JJJr: “I am not a target of”
“What are the chances that Blago rolls over on Jesse Jr. now that Jr. has basically thrown him under the bus?”
I’d say good to excellent...I think this whole thing will be with this Obama nitwit for a loonnnnnnnggggggg time to come. And Rezko hasn’t tipped over yet...make more popcorn...I know I will help anyway I can...we can really make this next 4 years hell for this bozo...
Yes We Can.
Which I am sure came as a big surprise to Jackson who is probably just trying to figure out why he is not being charged.
But of course they are ALL innocent—they are Democrats.
A smoking gun over a blood-soaked corpse is not even a probable cause for investigating THEM.
Just ask the MSM.
