Economic Death Penalty By Opinion Poll?
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Is the fate of our corporations and its leaders in the hands of a president making economic decisions by opinion poll? Will CEO heads roll because of a Gallup-ian thumbs down from the angry crowd? The panel on this afternoon’s Hardball didn’t merely acknowledge that chilling possibility. Like a bloodthirsty crowd on a hot Roman afternoon, it blithely applauded it.

Chris Matthews’ guests were WaPo’s Eugene Robinson and Chrystia Freeland of the Financial Times.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: You know, I was worried that President Barack Obama may have gone too far in lopping off the head of a major CEO, you know, Rick Wagoner the other day of GM. And then I read the Washington Post poll this morning, and I realized he’s perfectly in sync with this country! Four out of five people blame the big corporations for the hell we’re going through.

Wait till America starts to unload on main stream media and begin to blame how the media has helped steer our country into the wrong direction! Talk about a shock up Mathews’ leg. No Tingle!

The CEO’s who refuse to make the hard decisions and who accept money from the government have literally sold their souls to the devil. They deserve their fates. If the government will simply get out of the way the market will find new players to fill the demand for what ever product and service the faltering companies were providing. Most likely it will be better, faster, and cheaper.

If the government will simply get out of the way

You are right of course, but that is not going to happen. That is not their plan.

I bet Chrissy is pissing in his pants. He knows that BO and company will be coming after him in a very short timeframe.

It is completely disgusting how big a man-crush Chris Matthews has on Obama. I can't believe Matthews can't see this himself. Doesn't he realize what a pansy he's being. If he's married his wife should be very suspicious and jealous.

This is the danger of mob rule democracy. The founders never meant us to be a democracy.

Like old people voting against anyone who wants to reform SS. You can’t vote yourself money out of the public trough forever without major consequences

Don't forget the positive power of public opinion polling. NYT is going to die of hubris and bias, because of the broad public loss of trust. GM is likely to die, with the objections of patriotic Americans who despise the bailout being the final nail in the coffin of a company mortally wounded by poor management and parasitic unions. Within four years, the socialists will either destroy our country or destroy their own credibility, and I'm praying for the latter.
