Imagine Pres. Obama had been informed that terrorists were seeking to smuggle thousands of canisters of biological weapons into the United States from Mexico. Would he refuse to close the southern border because some canisters had already been smuggled in? I would certainly hope not.
But at his press conference tonight, PBO employed similar logic to justify his refusal to close the Mexican border to prevent additional people infected with swine flu—walking if unwitting biological weapons you might say—from entering our country . . . .

Trying to close the border to SOME, e.g. rich American college students flying back from a week at Cancun, doesn't slow down the arrival of mutated viruses.
His handlers know that neither Congress nor the hotel industry nor Western agricultural interests want a full closure, so he's not going to get out in front of them on the issue (even if he could understand it, but he can't).
Again, as long as we let Americans back in, that border isn't sealed.

I have to say, thank the Lord I homeschool. We will go into hiding for a while when Americans start dying.
“The Mexican Flu”. This is what we should all call it when we talk about it. It could get traction and that would put a more helpful label on the real problem.
That’s a good point about the mutated virus. That assumes there is a mutated virus in Mexico. The virus we have now in the US matches the Mexico virus. Border closings occur when the virus is not present at all in the country. Once it is here, it will eventually be everywhere. In fact, on Monday it was report in 7 states. As of last count, there are now probable cases in about 30 states. I would expect that will be all lower 48 by the end of day tomorrow.
I think the government’s view is that since it here, it is too late to prevent it from spreading everywhere so why cause economic harm by closing the border. However, if we saw a particularly deadly mutation in Mexico, I think they should close it. (I think they should make it secure anyway, but that is a different issue).
Connecticut radio host Jim Vicevich said today on his show, it was like when you were a kid and Mom said “Shut the door the flies are coming in.” Why should I shut the door, the flies are already in here? “Because we don’t want any more damn flies”.

However, virus mutation is the issue and always has been the issue. There's a killer virus on the loose in Mexico and we need to keep it out, AND before it becomes an even bigger killer.
That's a two-way closure. Plus, we have to be prepared to shoot down all the wildlife along that border that can serve as a vector ~ that would include pigs and migratory waterfowl.
We must also be prepared to round up and imprison environmentalist whackos and judges in the 9th Circuit so that no one gets a chance to stop the effort.
Now how likely do you think it is that Obama is going to kill all the pigs and ducks, lock up the judges, and throw the key away on the Leftwingtard environmentalist whackos?
Not likely Obama values your life higher than his political a$$, although he'll be sending his daughters to an isolated place for safety.

Today, CDC reports additional confirmed human infections, hospitalizations and the nation’s first fatality from this outbreak. The more recent illnesses and the reported death suggest that a pattern of more severe illness associated with this virus may be emerging in the U.S. Most people will not have immunity to this new virus and, as it continues to spread, more cases, more hospitalizations and more deaths are expected in the coming days and weeks.
It here and it is going to get worse. There is no need or use in panicking. However, this is the time to prepare.

The last thing he wants to do is close the border. That would set a precedent. People would say, “See, that wasn’t so hard. Now keep it closed to illegals.” He would lose a bunch of his future constituents.
