Persevering with Palin (Even a lefty at the Guardian sort of gets it!!)
The London Guardian ^ | December 14, 2009 | Michael Jeffries

Posted on 12/14/2009 10:27:54 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Smug and misplaced criticism of Sarah Palin feeds the resentment on which Palin and her followers thrive.

Sarah Palin has the floor. Last Wednesday she wrote a comment piece, essentially dismissing the Copenhagen climate conference as a political stunt. On Thursday, she injected herself into another discussion, joining a chorus of public figures from across the political spectrum in their commendation of Obama's Nobel peace prize acceptance speech in Oslo. Her fame and access to the public sphere remain solidly intact, one year after her ticket's heavy defeat in the US presidential election.

Much of the recent Palin buzz began with the publication of her best-selling autobiography, Going Rogue. Last week in the New York Times, Stanley Fish assessed Going Rogue favourably, arguing that fact-checking aside, Palin succeeds in conveying herself authentically and artfully. The book is more focused on Palin's personal beliefs and life story than it is on the events of the 2008 election campaign. According to Fish, the substance of Palin's character is "perseverance, the ability to absorb defeat without falling into defeatism." In this way, Palin's story becomes a metaphor for America itself, as Fish expounds: "America can't be stopped. I [Palin] can't be stopped. I've stumbled and fallen, but I always get up and run again. Her political opponents, especially those who dismissed Ronald Reagan before he was elected, should take note."(continued)

This is probably as much as we can expect from such a far-left newspaper.

GO SARAH GO!

More and more people in America today long for the clear vision, the positive attitude, the faith in God, the faith in America, the free market, and the conservative principles Reagan employed for 8 years that brought us out of the Carter malais and made eveyone proud to be American...and the polls are showing it.

MY TRIBUTE TO RONALD REAGAN

Americans want that again...and there is only one candidate on the radar screen that may give us a chance to regain it and turn around the Obama nightmare. The libs, DNC, MSM, and RINOs all know it and so they fear. loathe, hate, and attack that candidate...but to no avail.

Compare:

SARAH PALIN HONORING AMERICA AT A 911 MEMORIAL CEREMONY

THE MAN WHO DESPISES AMERICA

"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil" - Sarah Palin, August 8, 2009

"We face challenging times with some hell-bent on tearing down our nation by perpetuating pessimism and apologizing for America. They suggest that our best days were yesterdays. But how can this pessimism exist? Proof of our greatness and pride is all around us today. We produce proud and great volunteers who sacrifice everything for their country.

"We can resist enslavement to big central government that crushes hope and opportunity. We must be wary of government largesse. It doesn’t come free and often accepting it takes away everything that is free. Melting into Washington’s powerful and caretaking arms will only lead to suck away the incentive to work hard and chart our own course. This will only contribute to an unstable economy and dizzying national debt, and it will make us less free.

"We don’t have to feel that we must beg an allowance from Washington – except to beg the allowance to be self-determined.

"See, in order to be self-sufficient (we) must be allowed to develop, to drill and build and climb to fulfill our promise! We can not start believing that government is the answer. It can’t make you happy or healthy or wealthy or wise. What can? It is the wisdom of the people and our families and our small businesses and industrious individuals. And it is God’s grace helping those who help themselves." - Sarah Palin, July 26, 2009

It is upsetting that so many Americans may overlook glaring shortcomings and vote for Palin in 2012, because they identify with her "perseverance".

This guy is a schmuck.

The far-left fish-wrapper press is starting to get it. As Gandhi said "First they ignore you, then they mock you, then they fight you, then you win". We have passed through the mocking stage and are now entering the fighting stage.

"This is probably as much as we can expect from such a far-left newspaper."

I've read the article. The Guardian tries to present itself as being fair to Sarah Palin on one hand while trashing her with the other, ie. calling her uneducated for instance and implying tht she's the cause for the defeat of the Republican ticket in 2008. It's basically just another leftist trashing of Sarah Palin. And it shows that they are very afraid she's going to be the next President.

She’s the only reason Senator McCain didn’t get buried in a landslide.

Palin worshipers will misconstrue this article as an attack rather than a sign post of future handling of her by detractors.

This article suggests criticism of Palin move from the absurd ad hominim to more substantive issues. Supporters may wish for the day when criticisms were easily deflected/defended because they were not only over the top but induced more fervent support because they were veiled and back handed attacks on the kind of people who support her.

The left has always been strategically stupid in their elitist and arrogant portrayal of opponents, conservatives in particular, as dimwitted. It only generates sympathy and support from unintended corners of the electorate who may identify in some way with the target. It has the collateral consequence of keeping them over confident and unfocused.

Unfortunately, this article may indicate they are wising up.

The comments below the article are infuriatingly full of stereotypes about the Right, hatred for Palin and all who support her, and full of Obama fellating and fawning.

I like Sarah, but when I admit she needs to brush up on some issues, I have been flamed worse than ribs at a barbecue.

But Obama also demonstrated command of the issues, while Palin did not.

I defy the author of this article to show a single issue that Obama has a grasp of. He sure as hell can't prove it by how Obama's stimulus bill put millions of people back to work with shovel ready jobs. And, I could go on, and on, but the author is simply a Marxist ideologue.

The Guardian knows that we are fed up and determined to elect someone WITHOUT an “education” in the institutions that the communists run.

No more men and women raised and groomed under anti-American, traitorous, and Marxist schools.

It is upsetting that so many Americans may overlook glaring shortcomings and vote for Palin in 2012, because they identify with her "perseverance".

But two can play at the sneer-quotes game. How about:

It is upsetting that so many Americans may overlook what we nerdy Stalinists call Mrs. Palin's "glaring shortcomings," but which are in fact her virtues, and vote for her in 2012 because they identify with her perseverance. And also with their country and their God. That's as opposed to us, who are so gossipy and timorous, we identify only with What the Better People Are Saying Just Now. My word, how do we look at ourselves in the mirror?

Ditto that, “Sarah Palin is only reason I voted for the ticket too.”

She was the ONLY redeeming value on that ticket. McVain was very lucky to not get swept completely.
