USS Nimitz (CVN 68) has started from her homeport of Naval Base Coronado to perform sea trials at the western Pacific Ocean, for assessing its readiness and capability.
The trails have begun from June 30.
Later on, a 30-day carrier incremental availability (CIA) will be conducted when the ship will return from the extended deployment.
"We have accomplished some high quality maintenance on critical equipment and systems during this availability, for the next few days we get to validate that work by putting the ship through its paces," Capt. Paul O. Monger, Nimitz commanding officer, said in an US Navy official news release.
During sea trials, the ship's main engines and the aqueous foam forming film (AFFF) system will be checked by the sailors. A ship-wide training will also be performed to ensure equipment and systems continue to be operated properly.
As the ship conducts main engine tests, Air Department Sailors will also test one of the hangar bay's main AFFF firefighting systems.
"We're testing out the AFFF system to see if it's working properly while we're out here in case of a fire," said Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) Airman Rilwan Omisola.
Nimitz is the flagship for Carrier Strike Group 11. Nimitz has recently returned home to San Diego on March 26, after completing a successful eight-month Western Pacific deployment.

Always enjoy hearing news of the Nimitz. Served aboard her in the ‘80’s while in VA-35.
I’m starting to look forward to your postings each night. Lots of interesting things to read! I appreciate the effort.
Awesome photo of an amazing ship, but I guess it’s an older photo, due to the Intruders and Tomcats on the flight deck.
I remember the movie that starred the Nimitz (can’t remember the name) where they were caught in a time vortex and sent back to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, but they weren’t able to stop the attack. Kirk Douglass and Martin Sheen starred.

Saw her at the dock in San Diego a couple of weeks ago.
The Final Countdown.
Final Countdown. They filmed aboard her off the Virginia Capes back when she was homeported at NOB.
Have they fixed that time travel drive yet?
My grandson was named sailor of the month and got to sit in the Captain’s Chair about 3 months ago.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
Tomcats are gone, but the Intruders I see are still there. They are ECM aircraft, not strike. CVN 76 is here in Pearl Harbor, and you can clearly see the Intruders on board.
Naval Base Coronado? Guess it’s been a while since I was in San Diego. I never heard of this.
Its an error.
You never know in these days of base consolidations.
I checked and it lists NAS North Island as its home port.
