Perhaps the Most Ridiculous Thing to Come Out of Washington since..(Pledge To America is dreck)
RedState ^ | 9-22-10 | Erick Erickson

It is dreck.

The pledge begins by lamenting “an arrogant and out-of-touch government of self-appointed elites” issuing “mandates”, then proceeds to demand health care mandates on insurance companies that will drive up the costs of health care for ordinary Americans.

The plan wants to put “government on the path to a balanced budget” without doing anything substantive. There is a promise to “immediately reduce spending” by cutting off stimulus funds. Wow. Exciting.

There is a plan to cut Congress’s budget, which is pretty much what was promised in 1994. Seriously? In 4 years did the Democrats really blow up the Congressional budget? No — the GOP did that too.

There is no call for a Spending Limitation Amendment or a Balanced Budget Amendment. It is just meaningless stuff the Democrats can easily undo and that ultimately the Senate GOP will even turn its nose up at.

The entirety of this Promise is laughable. Why? It is an illusion that fixates on stuff the GOP already should be doing while not daring to touch on stuff that will have any meaningful longterm effects on the size and scope of the federal government.

This document proves the GOP is more focused on the acquisition of power than the advocacy of long term sound public policy. All the good stuff in it is stuff we expect them to do. What is not in it is more than a little telling that the House GOP has not learned much of anything from 2006.

I will vote Republican in November of 2010. But I will not carry their stagnant water.

Not a good review of "Pledge to America" from RedState.

Okay. Maybe the best thing is to dismantle the Federal government completely and start again with what the Constitution says it is limited to doing.

Lets face it the “politico’s” of the RNC are not happy with the tea party, they thought this might make it look like THE PARTY was the mover in the next election.. when THEY are a part of the problem .

Kuddos to the Senate republicans that blocked the debate of the dream act though . The dems were dying to use that debate against them in Nov

If this is the best the Republican Party can do, then it’s time for the Tea Party to step up to the plate and issue its own platform.

He’s probably going to some swank Dem parties since getting his CNN gig. I’ll disregard him from this point forward.

This comes from everyone (especially msm) demanding concrete objectives from the GOP. We’re told we have to be more than the party of no.

The simple truth is, for now “the party of no” good enough if it will stop these dictators.

I’d rather just have the Tea Party take over the GOP from the inside. By the looks of many primaries, that is exactly what will happen by 2012.

Patience Erick, you CNN “conservative”.

If the Republicans had the “Constitution” as their plank these clowns would come after them.

I read it, I’m not impressed. They still think they can force insurance companies to accept preexisting conditions without limitation. Why would anyone buy insurance until they actually get sick? rnc = dnc lite.

Red State won't even take a stand against bammies eligibility issue so we should care about their opinion on this?

Progressives/marxist/commies/socialist have had their plans in action for a hundred years, the bamster put them on steroids and now We the people are FINALLY waking up.

I understand the cynicism and doubt but what alternatives do we have?

It is my prayers and hopes that this time they don't let us down but a trip of a thousand miles begins with a single step, we can't correct what has been done for years overnight....well we could but is that the remedy you all would prefer?
