Israel Hands Over Land to Lebanon
fox news ^ | November 17, 2010 | Yonat Friling

The Israeli cabinet has authorized the pull-out from one of the most sensitive locations along the border with Lebanon, the village of Ghajar.

Control of the territory would then be transferred to the UNIFIL, which would also be responsible for preventing terrorists and criminals from crossing through the village.

UNIFIL will be responsible for security?

What a joke!

“This is strangely familiar.”

Yep. Look for an ‘uprising’. Appeasement seems to do that. They should try bombing instead.

I wonder what Obama-Clinton offered Israel for that? A bowl of soup?

Are Israelis self-loathing? Why “give” anything to their mideast enemies except things that go boom?

So Israel will still have to man the checkpoints. UNIFIL is worthless as.....you know the old sayings. Matter of fact the Israeli’s will probably have to have checkpoints to watch UNIFIL.

This isn’t a big deal now, but will be a major footnote after the next Islamofascist war against Israel. Thanks george76.

The pressure from the obama administration must be overwhelming!! Watch a large scale catastrophe to hit America. Every time the USA pressure Israel to give up land the wrath of God hits America...DON'T LAUGH it's coming!!

How about we put ACORN in charge of preventing voter fraud too? That would make as little sense. I just wish I understood why the Israelis agree to such stupid deals.

This story is a little misleading. The village of Ghajar used to be divided between Syria (when they had the Golan Heights) and Lebanon.

After Israel annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, its Syrian citizens became Israeli citizens. Since that time many Israeli Jews have moved into the Israeli half of village.

The converted Syrians in their half of Ghajar have never accepted their annexation and have been disloyal to say the least and many openly smuggle arms and contraband with their families and friends in the Lebanon half of town.

After Israel occupied the Lebanon half of town also, the situation became untenable. Israel has decided that it is easier to secure the old dividing line than to try to secure the perimeter of the Lebanon half of town.

Imagine if we occupied Juarez to stop the violence there. We would soon want to pull back to the Rio Bravo River and try to just secure El Paso.

Israel needs defensible borders that they can afford to secure. Syria rightfully lost the Golan Heights and this move is necessary to stabilize the area. Of course UNIFIL peacekeepers are a joke and Hezbollah will soon move in. Better to defend less and do it well.

That's very true. We've seen it happen again and again.
