Poll: Californians want it both ways on budget
Los Angeles Times ^ | November 18, 2010 | Cathleen Decker,

Californians object to increasing taxes in order to pare the state's massive budget deficit, and instead favor closing the breach through spending cuts. But they oppose cuts—and even prefer more spending—on programs that make up 85% of the state's general fund obligations, a new Los Angeles Times/USC Poll has found.

That paradox rests on Californians' firm belief that the state's deficit—estimated last week at nearly $25 billion over the next 18 months—can be squared through trimming waste and inefficiencies rather than cutting the programs they hold dear. Despite tens of billions that have been cut from the state budget in recent years, just a quarter of California voters believed that state services would have to be curtailed to close the deficit.

California in the last election has shown that it is a failed state. The majority of voters are clearly people who want something for nothing.

I see Jefferson Airplane is now the collective Poet Laureate of CA. Not officially of course, but this kind of thing sends Go Ask Alice running through my head every time.

(and I don’t like the song)

Free Ponies wins every time over “going without.” All thanks should go to FDR and his party for creating this entrenched entitlement sense of demanding something for nothing.

The Republicans in the House must get the message — no bailouts for irresponsible states like California.

The majority of voters here don’t pay taxes. We are burdening the minority with that honor.

As an ex-member of that minority, I declined the honor several years ago. I bet I wasn’t alone.

The NEW ballad of Jed Clampett for 2010
Come and listen to a story ‘bout a man named Jed
Poor oil entrepreneur barely kept his family fed
Then one day he was working for some food,
When up through the town came a bumbling clown
(Brown that is, take a toke what a joke)

Well the first thing you know old Jed’s taxes are to much to bear,
Kin folk said Jed move away from there!
Said Kalifornia is no place for you to be
So they loaded up the truck and they moved from Beverly
(go’n back to the Hills they are, fish’n holes, country and western stars)

Well now it’s time to say goodbye to Jed and all his kin
They would like to thank you folks for kindly dropping in
You’re all invited back again to their new locality
To have a heaping helping of their hospitality
(Redneck Hillbillies, is what the press call ‘em now,
Clingers of bibles and guns and to Obama no bow!
Nice folks Y’all come back now, ya hear?)

we should sell CA to the Chinese. Trade it in exchange for debt forgiveness. The Chicoms would probably make all the mexicans go home.

Mostly illegals want stuff for nothing. Just like in Mexico and they expect everyone else to pay for it.

California is a failed state.

The future belongs to Texas and Red State America.

Maybe we can somehow clone Chris Christie, using some of those billions in bond funds that CA’s brilliant voters passed (overcming other CA voters like me) for embryonic stem cell research.

/grumble

My guess is that CA elected Moonbeam just so they have someone to make fun of and tear down over the next few years.

Good...he (and they) deserve the coming mud-slinging fest.

Californians don’t have ‘firm beliefs’. California is a mish-mash of political and social ideologies that contradict and conflict with each other.

California is a chaotic mess. The winners right now are the leeches, moochers and commies. They’ll suck on the host until the blood runs out.

Then, who knows...
