Kumbaya Fodder versus Cannon Fodder

Use "Kumbaya Fodder" or "Peace Fodder" to describe innocent victims of restrictive rules of engagement

A Google search on "Kumbaya Fodder" yields no matches, so we are in fact first to introduce this useful term. It is the counterpart of cannon fodder: soldiers whose lives are thrown away through their commanders' incompetence, with millions who died in human wave attacks during the First World War as the best examples. The counterpart of cannon fodder is peace fodder or Kumbaya fodder: soldiers or civilians whose lives are thrown away through restrictive rules of engagement or foreign policies whose purpose is to support a country's public image instead of protect its citizens. Here are examples of Kumbaya fodder:

214 United States Marines and other service members, murdered by a suicide bomber in Beirut in 1983.

The Marine sentries at the gate were operating under rules of engagement which made it very difficult to respond quickly to the truck. Sentries were ordered to keep their weapons at condition four (no magazine inserted and no rounds in the chamber). By the time the two sentries were able to engage, the truck was already inside the building's entry way.

...The adage that kindness to the cruel is cruelty to the kind contains a lot of wisdom. The civilized world needs to develop the same revulsion for incompetent leaders who use soldiers and civilians as Kumbaya fodder as it has for incompetent butchers who use soldiers as cannon fodder.

TOPICS: Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: kumbaya; lockerbie
More Kumbaya Fodder:

(1) American service members killed or maimed in Iraq and Afghanistan because of restrictive rules of engagement that make them dread the possibility of court-martial for protecting themselves or fellow service members. As an example, a Navy SEAL faces disciplinary action and the possible end of his career because he accidentally killed a hostage with an otherwise entirely justifiable use of force during a fight with terrorists.

(2) 270 Americans, Scots, and other nationals murdered by the Lockerbie Bomber, who was released from prison instead of remaining there for life as he was sentenced.

(3) Israelis Eliyahu Shahar, Danny Haran, Einat Haran, and Yael Haran, all murdered by Samir Kuntar whom Israel later released instead of keeping him in prison for life, executing him, or simply not bothering to capture him alive in the first place per Rule 303.

(4) Amy Biehl, stoned and knifed to death by four men in South Africa who were later released instead of being hanged or imprisoned for life as they deserved.

The authors should be shot for using the term "Kumbaya" to describe restrictive and stupid policies.

The term "Kumbaya is from a 1930's spiritual song and means literally "Come By Here".

NEVER, NEVER underestimate the power of true "Kumbaya fodder". For if God is for you, your enemies are toast. "Kumbaya fodder" is far more powerful than "Cannon fodder".

“Kumbaya” is generally construed as the attitude that the whole world would get along if everybody sat down and sang Kumbaya. In “An American Carol,” Neville Chamberlain is shown singing Kumbaya with Hitler, Tojo, and Mussolini.
