White House to bypass Congress, issue waivers for 'No Child Left Behind'
The Hill ^ | August 8, 2011 | Russell Berman

The Obama administration will change aspects of the “No Child Left Behind” education law by executive action rather than wait for a congressional overhaul, officials announced Monday.

The Department of Education will issue waivers to states granting them relief from penalties under the 2002 law that could take effect next year. The announcement by the White House and education secretary Arne Duncan is a slap at the Republican-led House, where efforts at a bipartisan overhaul of the George W. Bush-era law have progressed slowly. President Obama had called on Congress to revise and reauthorize the law before leaving for its August recess, but neither the House nor the Senate acted.

“With no clear path to a bipartisan bill in Congress, the president has directed us to move forward with an administrative process to provide flexibility within the law for states and districts that are willing to embrace reform," the director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, Melody Barnes, said in a statement.

Educators and the left in general tend to forget: NCLB was originally proposed by the administration of George W. Bush immediately after he took office.[3] The bill, shepherded through the Senate by co-author Senator Ted Kennedy, received overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress.

As always, if their is a failure, blame the Rs.

This executive order effectively traps poor children in chronically poorly performing schools

No more parental choice to move them to a better performing public school

Stroke of the pen, law of the land

Hold teachers accountable, or get rid of NCLB? Yes, that’s a tough call for the Democrats. “Stupid people unite and vote Democrat!”

Even when a bi-opartisan agreement to set limits on something is passed (This was a Kennedy-Bush law), when it appears that the line in the sand is about to be reached, the government shies away from any pain it might cause.

That’s why spending is out of control and we can’t get Congress to adhere to any limits they set on themselves by law.

Have they sold the contents of the Whitehouse yet?

Several times. Delivery to be taken in 2017.

Joe Biden bought the contents twice. Man, is he dumb!

Those are not left behind classes these days. You are aware that most of those type of classes require one to be able to read blueprints, run computers, or be able to read many types of meters etc, right? Not to mention most of those professions make more money than those with a 4 year college degree.
